Is the X1 app stable for anyone?

Before the major anniversary update the X1 app was stable and my go to for watching TV with Emby.  Since then it has been essentially unusable.  I have no problems with my FireTV playback and generally use Chrome on a PC, all without issues.  But the X1 app may playback for 5-10 minutes and then freeze.  Sometimes it is just a playback issue but sometimes I need to kill the app.  This behavior has been going on for months.

Since I generally have a FIreTV hanging off each system on which I have the X1, I have just been living with it and hoping that the X1 updates would eventually fix it.  But...it has not got any better.  Is this something unique to my setup?  Does anyone have a X1 app that is stable?  I have seen some posts with similar complaints in the past but not much lately.  Has it been fixed or have people given up?

I am running Emby on an unRAID server with an older 4-core Xenon cpu.  If I am recording multiple shows from the HDHR and converting on the fly to h.264 mkv I can see maybe a max cpu issue but the problems seems to happen even at low load.  Most content is h.264 mp4 or mkv.  Pre-X1 update most things seems to play nativity on the X1.  But...from what I can tell now there seems to be some level of trans-coding going on.

I usually just use Chrome on a PC but have tried the Windows Store app and it does not appear to have any issues.

I am willing to submit logs and troubleshoot but at this point am looking for some feedback on if the X1 app is stable for anyone.

Of course!  So anticipating working on getting this issue resolved finally, I decided to do some watching on the X1 client and then capturing the error message and activity.

And...Have watch 3 shows tonight without a problem.

I probably should have tested again before posting since I updated to the latest unRAID Emby client this morning.  (of course there is another update since but almost hate to mess it up.)

This has been happening to me for months as well. It would freeze several minutes into the movie. It has been completely unwatchable. If I DLNA the same movie to the Xbox it would play just fine. After the last server update I started doing some testing. So far it seems to not be freezing. I have already made it through 2 movies that would have frozen in the past. But it seems like nothing is direct playing anymore though. It says the container is wrong for almost every movie I play including ones that should direct play. Is that supposed to be happening? Also I know ember is a third party app but it is still freezing not on every movie but some.

I spoke too soon. It has frozen three time now during the same movie before the halfway mark. At least now when it freezes it comes back after about 5 seconds and makes a sound like it's about to crash. I give up...

It seems as long as Ember for emby shows in the dashboard that it is direct playing is the only way I can guarantee that it will play all the way through without issue...

I'm ready to just convert my entire collection from DTS to AC3 at this point. Seeing as it looks like there is no immediate solution in sight do you think that is a wise move @@Luke ?

Ugh... looks like I spoke too soon for Ember for emby too. About half way through the movie it just stopped and gave an error message that said "Error: Video could not be decoded". The video was direct playing according to the dashboard.

I can only get basic mpeg4 with stereo AAC sound to play back properly without transcoding

in Theater h.264 with AAC stereo, give up after a couple of minutes when trying to direct play, forced transcoding and they work

In Ember h.264 with  AAC Stereo play fine (unless i try to jump around or skip ads, this can cause it to stop)

In Theater & Ember mpeg2video with mp2 stereo, play ok but they transcode

Plex, Movies & TV (DLNA) or Native Video Player (DLNA) play the above without transcoding and have no issues

I am running Ember 4.3.233, Thanks for todays update :)

I will test it with HD content later today, this usually works ok, but occasionaly stops when i try to skip the ad breaks, just playing straight through is fine (4 min ad break = 8 skip button presses)

These are the files i am after playing without transocding, which the xbox one can do, i think you did a fix for this in the desktop Ember App (or advised be to add something in a config file)

Not sure what the issue is, but it only appears to be Emby related apps that have these issues

Thanks

Here is the media info for the file that received the error. I'll provide logs too if needed. I have other files that always freeze in the same spot and for the most part it seemed like the freeze mostly happened when the server was remuxing the audio. I have video examples of that happening to if you need to see them.

An update to the Xbox app is rolling out. Microsoft has resolved a number of playback related issues in the Fall Creators update, and our new app update will take advantage of them. Make sure your Xbox One is fully up to date with all system updates.

Thanks !
