nague 5
Hi, I've just tested 4K UHD content on my Android 6.0.1 Sony TV (55X8509C) with Emby Android TV App. Video Codec is HEVC (5Mbps), container is mkv. It works like a charm, in direct play (this TV support hevc decoding in hardware), video is smooth … until I activated subtitles. When the first subtitle is displayed, video playback start being stuttering. Subtitle codec is SUBRIP. Is there a known issue with Android TV App, 4K and SUBRIP subtitles ? Sounds like your server is struggling to transcode the video once you turn on subtitles.
nague 5
Sounds like your server is struggling to transcode the video once you turn on subtitles. I don't think: server still reports "direct play" when subtitles is enable. Edited August 23, 2017 by nague

nague 5
Please try the beta of the app. I joined the beta and tested version 1.3.43g : same issue with SUBRIP subtitles. Actually, external SRT subtitles are working fine, it’s a suitable workaround for the time being.

It should be able to embed those in the stream but I'd need to see a log from the app to have a better idea of what is happening.
