Hi

Have not tried playing HDHR UK HD Channels for quite a while since even when they did work they were very stuttery.  If I need more than SD i usually use an IPTV HD Channel generally.

Anyway, just to see if anything had improved i tried playing several of them.

Basically they all fail in the Internal player with spinning Circle.  Trans/I

App Logs sent at 15:06 British Summer Time.   Server emby User emby

Tried Direct playing with VLC and it works but very stuttery and bad interlacing artefacts.

Would like it to just work with Internal player with transode seeking.

ffmpeg log attatched

Yes - I updated to that.  The stream is there.  Works fine in HDHR app on android and Emby webapp.

Android F/ATV is a no go.

Been having similar issues, gave up and installed NextPVR and the Emby plugin. So far no issues and HD channels play perfectly with VLC disabled for playback.

You are absolutely positive that was with 1.4.43+?

1.4.43a to be precise.  Just tried it again now.

And now mixed results.  Most HD channels do not play.

ITV HD took about 30 seconds to start - then had frozen picture for another 20 secs then continued ok.

Then Tried BBC2 HD and no dice.

Went back to ITV HD and refuses to play again.

So only had ITV HD play once ok out of 6 attempts.

Tried it another 6 times all failed.

Lowered bit rate to 420kb/s anf forced transcode which works.  Obviously quality crap.

For what it's worth, here are my test on my Stable Emby server (v3.2.28.0) from my Shield:

BBC 1 HD - OK - Direct/V

BBC 2 HD - OK - Direct/V

ITV 1 HD - OK - Direct/V

CH4 HD - OK - Direct/V

CH5 HD - OK - Direct/V

BBC News HD - OK - Direct/V

Is there much of a difference between the FTV and Shield app ??

I can hook up my FTV gen1 if you want.

Direct/V  will probaly work here ok too.

I want to be able to seek however and therefore they need to be remuxed or transcoded.

Ha! Thats crazy!!

Just ticked "Direct play live TV" (not VLC) and that makes it Transcode (not remux) all the HD channels!!!!  And they play fine then!

Weird!!

Checking "use VLC"  also plays them correctly "Direct/V"

But as explained I want them remuxed or transcoded so that i can rewind!!

Well I can try that later but I assume that it will Transcode ok and/or play direct as I am currently testing recording to mkv.

Did you clock my post above that when I select "Direct Play Live TV" that it worked BUT was actually doing a full transcode Trans/I

Well certainly does not like it as an Active Recording - Spinning circle of doom.

Once recorded plays fine Direct/I

Actually the recorded quality is so good, I really want to use these channels now rather than SD.  BUT cannot do that until you *magically* fix these HD channels to play as an Active Recording.

Thats because we are ALWAYS using active recordings to watch content!!

Hmm just tried to record BBC HD from HDHR (highest bitrate channel) with MKV conversion and i got 10 really small MKV -1 -2 etc files very quickly.

Sample ffmpeg log here.

@@Luke may want to look as obviously this is server related as well.

Ok, this is kind piling on something unrelated to android tv playback. Please open a new topic for this and then we'll look at it. Thanks.

That multiple small files bug still around then !!

Try turning off the Preserve original audio when converting recordings (when possible) option.

Actually if you look at the log from your thread, what you're perceiving as an Emby bug looks like a failure due to an error response coming from the remote server. So it starts, fails, starts again, etc. I don't see anything in that topic for me to look into so as far as I can tell there isn't a problem. If you have new examples to show I'm happy to look at them.
