Attach Server IP to Emby Account

Hi all,

I'm still relatively new to Emby, and I've recently run across something that I found a bit puzzling...

When I logged in to my account using my Apple TV, it automatically found and connected to my local server. However, when I try to log in on the web, it asks me for the server's IP address. I was wondering if there's a setting I can change in my account to circumvent this step in the future (for all devices - even ones I've never logged in to before). For example, if I'm at my friend's house and want to log in on their computer, I may not remember my public IP address, but I would hope that when I log in, similar to Plex, it automatically connects to the server because my account itself, not the device, is attached to the server and its IP address.

Again, I was wondering if there's already a way to do this, perhaps by changing some setting in my account. This is sort of a difficult topic to research because the keywords are too generic (i.e. server, log in, ip address), but I did run across another forum that talks about inviting friends/family to use your server with their own account, and they get an email with a link? This isn't really what I'm talking about - I'm talking about logging in my account (which I also use to manage Emby server) on a new device, and that device automatically connecting to the proper IP address because that information is stored in the account.

Thanks in advance!  :)

P.S. Even though I mentioned using my public IP address, please do note that THIS TIME I was on the same local network as the server. The question still stands though - I'm looking for it to automatically connect to the server, without asking for the IP address, no matter where I am or what device I'm on - as long as I'm using the same set of login credentials

Happy2Play

The infomation gets cached on the device.  There is no way to blanket the information to every known device.

So there's no way to make that information known as part of the account, like is the default on Plex?

Then how come my apple TV connected automatically? I understand that it was probably able to detect the server on the local network, but if that's the case, why couldn't the web app detect the server as well?

Thanks Luke! I'll check it out. I did run across that earlier but I just assumed that was a fancy name given to the Emby client. I might come back here for more info...

Thanks!

@@Luke I made sure I'm singing in using Emby Connect, but I'm still experiencing this issue, both on my local network and publicly. My personal laptop seems to connect automatically to the server no matter where I am, but I assume that this is because it has cached the IP address somewhere. When I try to log on using another, fresh device using Emby Connect (i.e. another laptop, the iPhone app, etc. that has never been used for Emby before), I still get the error message:

"No servers are available to connect to. If you've been invited to share a server, make sure to accept it below or by clicking the link in the email."

As for publicly, I DID make sure to expose the correct port on my firewall, and again, when I use my laptop (both on and NOT on the same local network as the server), where I've already manually added, it automatically connects without asking me to add a server.

Check the wiki link I gave above and it will tell you what to do when you see the no servers message. Thanks.

Bah! Silly me. I just assumed your link was to the Emby Connect login page, so I didn't even bother clicking on it. Thanks!
