Bug Report: Xbox One stuttered playback

Hi @@Luke and @@ebr,

I wish to report a playback problem on Xbox One. Whenever I try to play Friends, which has been ripped from Blu-Ray using MakeMKV, it continually pauses every couple of seconds making it unwatchable. I do not have this problem with playing movies that have been ripped from Blu-Ray, or when it is played on iOS, Android TV or the web app. I have even tried re-ripping an episode without subtitles, and it still does it.

Just a side note, I do not appear to have this problem when playing some of the special features which are not 16:9 widescreen.

Please provide a new log with a lower setting. A lower setting will force the server to transcode it. Thanks.

@@FrostByte, you as well, these builds may restore some passthrough for you.

Just got version 133.14 on the XB1 (assume .14 is the beta track).  However, it still remuxes all AC3 mkvs which used to Direct Play before .116.  XB1 is set to bitstream Dolby via HDMI

Looking at the remux logs again it's now converting AC3 to AC3 instead of AAC?  That appears different.  Not sure if that's on purpose because it was crashing when Direct Playing there after the Creators Update or why it would do that.

The important thing is to make sure that none of the crashing returns. thanks.

Agree, thanks.  I suppose this makes one less transcode because with the XB1 set at DD bitstream it won't have to convert it a second time back to DD so that's good.

@@FrostByte, were you able to retry any videos that you know were previously crashing a few weeks ago? thanks.

Sorry, thought I had responded.  The app does not crash. However, version 133 seems to be a regression from 131 because it just stops playing at certain times within everything now.  I've tried to play several movies and episodes and it just stops playing at the exact same time every time I try playing them.  It's not the same time across videos, but whenever I try to replay a particular video it just freezes at the same point it did before in that video

To be more specific, it doesn't freeze the app.  The movies and episodes just stop playing at certain times.  I can hit "B" and restart the video, but it stops at the same time.  The episodes seem to stop real quick, like withint 5 seconds.  Most of the movies I can see about 2 - 4 minutes before they stop

Just had an h264/AC3 video stop after 16 minutes of playback.

It was Direct Streaming, but copying both video and audio:

Stream mapping:

Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy)

Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (copy)

If both COPY why wasn't it Direct Playing?

Xbox version 1.1.133.14.

OK, it seems to have got stuck now.

Playback is "paused", but in the Dashboard the time counter is going, 34:12, 34:14, 34:16, 34:12, 34:14, 34:16 repeatedly.

The item is Direct Streaming, and the RED bar is complete, so it's the playback, not the ffmpeg process.

Okay, just loaded version 134 on XB1.  It looks like it's back to converting AC3 to AAC, but I haven't seen it pause during playback like it was always doing when copying to AC3 in version 133.

Well, it looks like the audio and video get unsynced, the further you get into a movie the more off it is.  Version 134.  Did this twice now

Just installed the latest app update on Xbox One, it seems to be playing fine now.

@@Luke Just a further update. Since the latest updates to beta and stable servers, playback is pausing after about 20-40 seconds... the stuttering is fixed though.

I just noticed I'm having the issue today. Watching a tv show it pauses every maybe 10 minutes or so. Hitting b them telling it to resume fixes it temporarily.

Hoping a fix comes out soon :)

I decided to try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, and it seems to be working fine for the moment... I'll report back in the next few days whether this changes or not.

How did it go?

Also wanted to add, yesterday I was trying to watch a TV show...and it kept pausing after approx. 10 minutes. going back and hitting play again didn't fix it. and doing it too many times would cause the app to pretty much become unresponsive. Trying to exit the app would take about 1-2 minutes. The only way to get back to a better experience was to force shut down the xbox as a whole, turn it on, and it would be ok for a few hours...but then it would come back.

Hope that helps you @@Luke

Any updates as to when you think a ET update is rolling out? This is kind of killing the viewing experience for my users and me, especially the ones I pushed to switching from Roku to ET for xbox1

It's ok... could be better. After watching Game of Thrones season 4 yesterday, I decided to kick back and watch some Friends... I ended up having to close the app and restart it, as it would pause after 2-5 minutes. Which I thought was strange, considering I watched the entire season of GoT without any issues.
