hello i would like to know if theres any way (or plugin) to add "news" so the users can see it on the front page, or at least custom notification.

Example of usage : i fixed a subtitles that was wrong and i want to let users know it was fixed.

Also, one more question, is it possible to add a "report a problem" on each movie playing?

So users can report if theres an audio/subtitle problem on a title?

I use emby for my family and we are not all in the same house, so this features could be great to avoid "whatsapp spam" xD

Thanks

I would look at Ombi for Emby.

Ombi is mainly a request service, although you can have newsletters.

Not sure it's exactly what the OP wants.

No, it's a piece of cake to install :)

Like a popup message when users logs on to a client?

Can the message/Notification service in the API be utilized? I've iften wanted to send a message to my users as well.

I did make an emby app that emailed people but it's not like a message popup.

Let me test the notification system and see what happens. I tried to build a phone call notifier early this year but the popups didn't show everytime.

Not sure why.

a popup up could do the trick, but it should detect if the user already readed it so it doesnt appears again

i was talking about something like a news system, where the admin can send an announcement to all users and it will show as unreaded until they read it

any idea about the other question, the "report a problem" link on the movies?

for information it should just open a form where the user can pick if it was a subtitle problem, video problem, or audio problem and once sent should email to the admin, or show into the adminpanel

this 2 features could be really cool to have on emby by default in my honest opinion

It looks like I'm able to add tiles to the notification panel, but that doesn't really help users who don't have access to the dash.

The popup only happens when the command to send it is triggered.

I suppose the plugin could keep track of user login events "sessions/userid" and then keep track of what it sent and to whom in the configuration.

Is that the path to take? If so I will continue to experiment.

Figured out that not all clients allow the messaging. The web client will show a popup everytime but the theater is very... Very picky lol!

I'll keep at it.

Here is how it works so far:

A message is saved and time stamped.

Look at user last activity date, if less then time stamp send message.

When all users activity date is greater delete message.

Only issue I'm having is sending the message. If the user UI hasn't fully loaded the message is having issues.

Plus, if the message is sent to a client and doesn't show, the message is considered sent anyway because there is no ability for feedback from the user as to weather or not they saw the little popup.

I don't know of this is really all that useful.

Anyone want to weigh in on it? Maybe a more robust message system in the core would be a better solution then this?

What about an update-able channel plugin?

You could just post "blog-ish" text which would show when the user choose that channel on the home screen?

Dunno, just throwing it out there...

Again, I can see the relavance of this type of system. For instance if I rip a movie and encode it to place it in the server for my users, and they watch it, it is now watched. But, if I rip a better encoding of the movie and put it on the server, it will not show under recent media (if watched media is being ignored in user settings) because it is watched. So, I need to let my users know that that movie/ ?item has a better and more enjoyable copy to preview.

Yes Chef, thats exactly why i think a system like this will be here helpful.

Same scenario happens if a movie has "broken" subs and i upload and fix them, users will never notice. So this "news" system could be something really needed.

Have you think about my other question on the first post about having a "report" button on each movie?

What does the Slack plugin do?

Slack seems to be a messenger service, is that what the plugin is?

Because that might be something to look into.

But I haven't tried it.

It seems devs don't get the difference between news page from admin from send messages to users, these are 2 completely different things.

but its easier to close forum topic....

How do we want to display the feed to the user?

Is it just an rss XML sitting on an endpoint in the Emby domain, that users could subscribe too?

What sorts of things would you want to have in the feed?

I think someone mentioned completed series..

There could also be a general area where you could message whatever you wanted.

Yes blogish news page, simple. Let admin enter text in admin dashboard and it shows on that blog page somwhere on main menu... ( like new option )

Are you talking about an MOTD type message that everyone can read upon login in or starting the app? If so then I would like to see something like that too.

Yes exactly like that. I see now that Emby has no way to display any news to server users, or some announcement, or something. Multiuser server needs this kind of feature, and judging by posts year back alot of users asked / needs this kind of feature.
