Better subtitle support

The only thing holding me back from going back to Emby from Plex is the subtitle support. Plex with Sub-Zero is superior to Emby, and I need to have subtitles on all my movies and tv-shows. Can I expect better subtitle support in the future? I really want to use Emby, but right now I have no other option than to use Plex with Sub-Zero.

What I would like to see:

  • More subtitle providers (SubScene, Podnapisi.NET, Addic7ed, TVsubtitles.net)
  • Better matching for subtiltes

Updated the first post :) Sorry for not including it. I will try Emby with some files again, but I've had some trouble before.

Also, could you remove the "Bokmål" and "nynorsk" choice for Norwegian subtitles?

Well more providers is a great idea but I don't see how the matching could be any better. We support both the hashing technique as well as lookup by imdb id's, and we utilize both. I'm not sure how much more accurate it needs to be than that.

Since Emby upgraded itself I on the screen but had much difficulty getting subtitles to run, I used to have the option of having them on all the time. Now I'm either told my subtitles don't exist (when they are in my download folder, the option to chose a subtitle during playback flashes of the screen quickly with no opportunity to choose or sometimes the option stays on the long enough to choose subs but I have to wait for a minute during a screen blackout and then playback proceeds with captions. Any chance I can roll back to the earlier version. I do appreciate the appearance of the new version but I need the functionality of the old.

I'll try it again and see how it does. Plex with Sub-Zero v2 finds more Norwegian subtitles, will try some more later today. Sub-zero uses subliminal v2, guessit + libraries.

I'm a thumbs up for SubScene.

In fact I'm a thumbs up for as many as possible, especially if someone manages to find subtitles for Pluton BRB Nero and Dans Une Galaxie Pres De Chez Vous and some of my other obscure tastes.

Addic7ed is now in the Emby plugin catalog. You'll need to configure your Addic7ed credentials in the plugin configuration. Enjoy.
