Emby Server randomly stops working

Hi guys,

I'm worthless at Linux overall but trying to learn more and more so bear with me in this case and I barely know how to read the log file either so ...... >.>

My issue is that my Emby-server randomly just stops working on my Ubuntu 17.04.
I try to run "sudo service emby-server start" when it stops working but that doesn't help so I have to restart my whole server.
I have my shares mapped via fstab if that helps anything but I guess this isn't the issue as the same shares have been used by Plex earlier and worked like a charm.

My Emby server is like 2 weeks old and I have had it updated 2 times I think but no update solved it.

I have attached a Log-file that I took right after I restarted my server.

Any help I can get is much appreciated!

There's a large number of 404's coming from the moviedb. we'll resolve that for the next release. let's see if that takes care of the issue. thanks.

@@Luke can you take a look at these logs and tell me why it just goes down all the time? This is a group server that was installed alongside Plex and literally everyone else that uses the server (probably 6 people) have completely switched to Plex because they will constantly try to open the site and it's down. This is on top of performance issues such as taking forever to load a page of movies, or taking forever for the movie to actually load once you hit play...

Edit, I should note, this has been ongoing since we built the server probably 8 months ago. I've been running the Windows version of the server for about 2 years with actual no issues, which is why I recommended Emby as the medium in the first place.

Your log also contains a mention of a file sharing violation, and this should be resolved for the next release. So I'd also suggest re-evaluating with that. Thanks !

File sharing violation? How did that get triggered?

Edit, found it but how does that affect the system IO, I figured that would just sit in the directory and only pull when that particular file is accessed?

Today I found out that the server had crashed again.

Again I could logon to the Ubuntu server without any issues and I ran "sudo services emby-server status" and it said that it was active.

But I still couldn't access the Emby server without restarting the whole Ubuntu server.

There are some TLS issues there related to https. when this happens does it accept http traffic? the next release will bump the mono version to 4.8.1 which has a revamped TLS stack that now supports TLS 1.2.

Sounds good :)

I have to wait until the server crash again if I should check the http thing, so getting back about that.

Thanks for all the work you are doing and so far you have a really good support here on the forum :)

Keep it up!

Can you please describe what "doesn't work" means? Thanks !

Sorry but it's the same thing as before, when the server have crashed and I try to enter it via my browser it just loads but nothing happens, it's just a white page. As soon as I restart the whole Ubuntu machine, it works again.

Are you sure you tried http? All I see in this log is https. Thanks !

Forgot that I used "Report HTTPS as external address" ticked in... guess I have to wait for it to crash again.

Think I'm just gonna do a full reinstallation of it instead, guess that will be faster since I have nu clue what to test :(

I would suggest updating the mono runtime to 4.8.1, although if you reinstall I think our latest install package will handle that now.

Have unchecked "Report HTTPS as external address" and updated Mono.

Server crashed again and I couldn't access Emby either via https or http.

Have attached a new log file.

Hi @@Arelion, you updated mono to the new 5.0. That is a little too new at this point and we haven't certified it for use with Emby yet. 4.8.1 is our recommended version. Thanks !
