1) Start playing a TV show or movie

2) Go to the Android home screen (ie minimize the app or switch to another app)
3) The audio continues to play (as expected)
4) Bring the Emby app back to the foreground (ie switch back to Emby)
5) The audio and playback controls are both working/playing but the video is just a black screen
6) To get the video back you must exit playback and start the show/movie again

Emby Android v2.8.87 (newest Google Play)
Server version v3.2.13.0
Android OS 6.0

I logs didn't look interesting, but let me know if you can't reproduce and I would be happy to provide them.

@@ebr I confirmed this is still an issue on the newest release. Have you had an opportunity to investigate?

I'm still experiencing this on the newest release (2.9.15). When I go to the home screen now, the audio stops/pauses (instead of continuing to play as before), but when I open Emby the video is still black. The audio resumes playing and the time counter on the seek bar continues incrementing, but the video is gone.

Ok, I haven't seen that in my testing but I will do some additional testing to try and reproduce. Thanks !

Hey @@Luke -- were you able to repro this?  I get full screen calendar notifications/reminders which pushes Emby into the background -- when I dismiss the notification Emby comes back to the foreground, audio resumes, but playback is black.

You can also just switch to the homescreen and re-open Emby from the notification bar -- playback will resume with no video.  Tested on Android 6.0

EDIT: Was able to reproduce on Android 7.0 as well (Samsung Galaxy S6)

Both transcoding and direct play. Just checked both scenarios on Android 6.0 with newest Google Play version. Been happening for the last several versions too.

Hey @@Luke -- I reproduced this on an old Nexus 5 (Android 5.1.1) running the newest Emby build (2.9.37), both transcoding and direct play.

Audio resumes after switching back into Emby, but video is black/blank.

@@Luke Reproduced on a Nexus 7 tablet (Android 4.4.2) as well -- video goes black if you switch to another app and switch back.

Yes and it will be resolved as part of a larger project to revamp video playback in the app. Thanks.

I'm also getting this on the following:

Emby for Android v2.9.66

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Android 7.0

Watching a TV series (not tested a movie), I press home button and playback stops completely (no sound) as I would expect (I have a running Emby notification though). Re-open the Emby app, press play and the sound plays but screen goes black. Sometimes it comes back on it's own but it takes a long time (couple of minutes). Does this for direct play and transcoding.

Really hope this fix is released soon, I love Emby and purchased it primarily for mobile viewing but this issue makes it difficult to do anything while a video is playing.
