Emby Theater - Option for MadVR Disappeared

I just noticed that the option to select MadVR has suddenly disappeared from the video options menu, and it looks like it has been replaced by some other options.  Was this due to an update?  I have attached my latest log if that helps. I am running on Windows 10, and the version of Emby theater is 2.6.1.  My server version is 3.2.13.

Yes. MadVR no longer included. THey moved to MPV.

check out the testing forum page for info.

ver 2.5.40 is the last version to have MadVR. If u want to go back, the old version is in the system.old folder of the E.T program folder.

Delete the MediaBrowser updater exe to stop auto updates, though u will get an error dialog occasionally.

Yes we've moved to a new player that is more stable and will perform better.

MPV is capable of all the same filters as madvr if you use a custom mpv.conf file. Several users in the testing thread are already doing that.

yes...however, one has to be savvy enough to figure out how to make one and use the correct syntax...etc..  (Not every user comfortable doing that.) Unlike madvr that has a GUI utility to tweak settings.

Though presumably, if you're on 2.6.1, the old version is 2.6.0, so can't go back to 2.5.40 ?

Is there any plan to be able to switch players so that madvr could be used? You guys have done a great job with this software and I've loved it so far, but one of the main reasons I switched to it was the integration with madvr. I upscale to a 4k TV, and the quality is significantly reduced now. I know I can play around with mpv's settings, but before I do that I just wanted to ask about future support for madvr since I spent a lot of time recently tweaking those settings, so right now this is a huge bummer. I'd prefer not to sit at an old version of theater for a long time either. Again you guys have done great work with this software, I'm just trying to understand your future plans with regards to madvr.

Also another random question, if Emby theater is now using mpv, is there any chance of a Linux port?

madVR is also the only option for those utilizing 3dluts. I will not be updating ET until I can use madVR with it again.

We'll add a setting to the UI to make it like madvr. It will be just as easy as before.

And yes, with MPV, the linux port will be much easier now. Thanks.

Good reason to keep a backup of the entire E.T folder... the test builds were portable independent.  Seems the Update was pushed to the released today.

I would think u can download the old version from the Emby site somewhere....thought he main instlaler appears to be smart installer, so it downloads current version from server.

Else, a user who still has the old version can .zip the System folder it and send it to u?  I can if necessary.

I would appreciate if you could send me the old version or provide a way to find it on the website somewhere; I have not had a chance to check if the old one I have on my system is 2.6 or older. It does seem to me like the latest version with mpv is a bit of a step back at this point, refresh rate switching appears to be gone as well...

Thanks, that would be a possibility though I should imagine the new version will get fixed up soonish.

Might be nice if you could keep a version of 2.5.40 lying around somewhere just in case though  :)

2.62 is up and adds the madvr setting I mentioned.

That's just for "Smooth Motion" it would appear.

I use things like "Image and Upscaling refinements" AdaptiveSharpen, LumaSharpen, EnhanceDetail, SuperRes...etc"....also use Lanczos algorithm on my desktop and DXVA2 algorithm on my oldish laptop.

Now sure, it would appear one can make a .conf file for MPV to set these or similar settings...if you can interpret all the code required and use the correct syntax, but only advanced users may want to take that on.

Now, having all the advanced settings via a GUI in E.T to set all of those would be nice, but certainly a lot of work.

Or, at the very least, simplify things and include your own configs in the form of profiles from basic to enhanced settings.

I mainly am needing one that engages those aforementioned enhancements....primary sharpness.

If nothing else, even just a basic way to adjust video output sharpness levels would be greatly welcome.

it sets the scaling method to oversample and enables interpolation. Yes would could expose the list of scaling methods as well.

Comparing tweaked MadVr settings i use vs the best available set MPV settings in the new Emby Theater.  The better detail with MadVr is night and day.

For whatever reason, the .gif i made won't play and even attached does not work...so...regular stills then. attached since posting them inline appears to be degrading them.

First pic is MadVr, second MPV.  Big differance in details seen in the lions face and hair.

EDIT: attached pics.

Yea I made a quick decision on what mpv switches to use when the madvr-like setting is enabled, and I think we'll just have to go through the mpv manual to fine tune and improve it.

What were your exact settings in the old version of the app?

h.am.: Auto

V.R: MadVr

O.r: PC

refresh rate: No

Filter set: Stable

Madvr smooth motion: none

However, u can not adjust the advanced MadVr settings in Emby...u use the "madHcCtrl.exe" for that. It shows up in the system tray for me.
