Migrating Emby from Windows to QNAP

I've bought a QNAP (yay!) and managed to install EMBY. It works fine, but...

I wanted to migrate settings from my Windows EMBY installation with Server Configuration Backup. I pointed the plugin at the correct folder but now the plugin just sits there and taunts me with a spinning circle...

What I'd most like are the user profiles showing who has watched what etc...

Any ideas?

Wow. Have I mentioned I love the Emby team?

I uninstalled the plugin, restarted Emby, installed the new version, restarted Emby. Still getting circle of doom, unfortunately.

New log.

yea because windows smb requires authentication and we don't have a place for you to enter the credentials for that folder path at the moment. i would suggest one of two things. mount the share to a local share within QNAP, then use the local path in Emby. Or just copy the whole thing to a local folder on the QNAP, then use the local path in Emby.

I tried copying to a QNAP share, but no joy. It was already on a QNAP share for that matter. But this time I "got there through the QNAP", if you will. /share/homes/MediaBrowser config backup

Sorry for the obtuse question, but how do I mount the share to a local share in QNAP?

And also this is not working. :(

First, please provide descriptive information that can be used to help you. Thanks.

Sorry about that.

I have tried pointing the Server Configuration Backup plugin at:

- A folder on a QNAP share, in Windows.

- The same folder on a QNAP share, within the QNAP file system.

- Another folder on a QNAP share, withing the QNAP file system.

In all cases said folder has contained the backups created by the plugin from my Windows install of Emby server.

In all cases I get a spinning circle of doom and no list of my backups.

Can you please provide the emby server log from the most recent test with the qnap local folder? thanks!

Sure. Here you go. Thank you for your continued patience.

Question: Can I migrate the users, libraries and other settings in some other way, without using the Server Configuration Backup plugin?

It appears Emby Server doesn't have access to the folder with the backups. On the backup config screen does it list all your previously saved backups?

Previously saved backups are not listed. The list is blank and I get a spinning circle of doom.

In QNAP, I enabled Advanced Permission. I then gave access to the folder containing the backups to my "Emby admin user", though to be fair I don't think the QNAP user is the same as the Emby user. I also tried giving guests full access to the folder. Still no joy.

Still the same result, I'm afraid. Log here

I've put the folders with the backups in /share/homes/MediaBrowser config backup/. Have also tried pointing the pluging at /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/homes/MediaBrowser config backup/ with no luck.

It just looks to me like Emby Server does not have access to that location.

Why don't  you try this. put the backups under the server's program data folder, then try again.

how about here:

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/Emby/Emby/ProgramData-Server/backups

Unfortunately I can't see /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/ in FileStation on the QNAP. I've logged in with telnet (via Putty) but I can't seem to copy the files there either.

How would I go about seeing /share/CACHEDEV!_DATA/ in Filestation?

(Sorry. My Unix is very rusty and was never much good to begin with)

Here's my backup path /share/MD0_DATA/Public/Backup/Emby Backup

If you want to be able to see the .qpk directory outside a terminal in QNAP you will have to create a share. Example: I have a share "Apps" and the path to is /share?MD0_DATA/.qpkg

Thanks. That helps.

My problem seems to be permissions, however.

Question: What permissions does the specified folder need for Emby to be able to use it as a backup path? Public read/write or is there a more clever way? Also, I can't seem to grant separate permissions to a child folder of public.

Public is already available to everyone by default. Keep in mind you are not using either NFS or SMB shares; therefore, the permission you are referring to doesn't apply.

Emby, installed on the QNAP, is not talking to the path over the network. It's talking to the RAID.

Here's a breakdown.

The backup plugin for Emby installed on your windows box would be configured with the following path:

//<ip address>/Public/Backup/Emby Backup/ --- SMB Read/Write permission is needed

The backup plugin for Emby installed on your QNAP box would be configured with the following path:

/share/MD0_DATA/Public/Backup/Emby Backup

That makes sense. However when I point Emby (on QNAP) to the share I've created under public, I get the spinning circle of doom. So apparently there's still some permissions issue.

Interestingly, I can run backups, and these show up in the folder. However I cannot see them in Emby under "Current Backups".

So somehow Emby can write to the folder, but it can't then list the backups. I'm confused...

New log here.

Does this file exist?

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Stuff/MediaBrowser config backup/Emby Backup - 2017-03-23 12.10.7 - Auto/profile.txt

It appears to still be trying to query the previous folder. Did you click save after entering the path? Can you try refreshing the page and/or restarting the server? thanks !
