Cannot connect to Emby server

When I boot up my QNAP and try to access the emby server from my PC (using Firefox) I get to an error page stating: Firefox cannot connect to server 192.1xx.1xx.xx:8096.

I than access my QNAP directly via the QTS, go to the App Center, Stop emby server, stop Qmono, wait 1 minute start Qmono, start empy server and everything works perfectly.

When I shut down the QNAP for a copule of days an boot it up again, the story start atthe top again...

Isn't that weird?

are you starting QMono before the network connection is ready? Even if you are, I think that still should be fine, I'm just trying to suggest a possible explanation.

QMono is (as the emby server) an app installed on my QNAP.

So when I boot up the QNAP all the apps are getting started by the system.

By the way, everything worked perfectly until the update to the new QTS (4.3.3) and the new emby (3.2.19).

Since that day I can hardly use the emby anymore as everytime I want to use it I need to boot up my PC and perform the procedure described above.

That is really annoying...

I sounds like your problem is the order of execution of QMono and Emby on your NAS

From the QNAP forum a way to control the order of your packages and how they run up

"Sort my QPKGs is an automatic sorter for installed QPKGs so they launch in a predetermined order when your NAS next boots-up. Certain packages need to launch sequentially (example: Qmono before QSonarr) but due to flaws in QNAP's QPKG installation / reintegration process, this may not occur. This package will help ensure these QPKGs are correctly ordered."

Link https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?t=133132&p=618514

Its written by OneCD who has written a few very useful scripts and if you get problems is good at sorting them.

Just checked with OneCD and the above will work with Emby - see the end of the thread i linked to :)

Dear @@PenkethBoy,

I tried the package and it seems the problem is solved.

I will test over the next days (when the QNAP shuts down automatically) and report back.

Until then: Thanks a lot!

We have a new QNAP package available for testing:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/51334-new-qnap-package-for-testing/

Unlike the current package in the QNAP community, this is built by the Emby Team and will be tested and supported by us. It is also built with the new .NET Core runtime from Microsoft, which has major performance improvements over the mono runtime used by the community package.

Please try it out if interested in helping us test it. Thanks !

Hi,

i'm using emby-server-qnap_4.2.0.5_x86_64 (but i also tested the stable emby-server-qnap_4.1.1.0_x86_64 as well)

the issue is in appcenter, when i click Emby to connect, it goes to this link which doesn't work

https://192.168.0.xxxx:8920/

so i thought maybe set it to http://192.168.0.xxxx:8920/

also same thing

Then i see sam's post in regards to the url so i tried that and it works

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46884-cannot-connect-to-emby-server/

http://192.168.0.xxxx:8096/mediabrowser

Hello,

I am new to emby and have just installed the ARM 64 version (QNAP 1635AX with the latest firmware) for the first time: "emby-server-qnap_4.2.0.40_arm_64.qpkg".  According to QNAP it is running as I have stopped and restarted the server.  When I type in my server address: http://x.x.x.x:8096 - nothing is displayed and the server cannot be found.  The default server link is: http://x.x.x.x:8920 and I get the same error.

Is there any other software requiring installation (I have noticed other versions of emby require mono)?  Can you please have any hints and tips for a newbie?

I have plex and twonky servers running on my qnap and they both work fine.

Thanks,

N.

Hello,

I have just tried: http://localhost:8096

This does not work as I get the same error of server cannot be found / cannot connect.  How do I find if the server is running?  Do I have the correct server installation file?

Thanks,

N.

Are you sure you started the server from the QNAP web interface?

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

I believe it is running - when I look at the app it has the following options:

Stop

Remove

Display on >

I have tried v4.2 and 4.3 (beta) and they both installed - both with the same problem loading the main page.

well today as has happened a few times here lately my emby server locked up to wit could not access the server had to go into QNAP and stop server then restart it when i tried to stop it using the QNAP app had to try 3 times before it actually stopped. Looked at the emby logs and it indicated the roku connection was in a endless loop. was watching something last night on my roku tv and it got slower and slower then stopped all together then crashed tried reconnecting and would not connect. after stopping and restarting the server everything works again. My server log was huge as in megabytes versus the usual kilobytes size.

Hi Luke,

Thank you.  I have re-installed emby server for Arm 64 bit and restarted the server and I have received the following error:

"[App Center] Failed to install Emby Server 4.2.0.40. Installation package is incompatible. Use the correct package."

Do you have a package which works with the QNAP 1635AX?

Thanks,

Newbie.
