Xbox One- how to achieve direct play/stream?

Hi there, I've been using Emby on my Synology NAS with playback on a Pi3 for about 6 months now. I'm considering making the jump to paid so I can playback on our new Xbox One instead of the Pi3 however I can't get playback to work correctly for even the 1 minute samples. Currently it pauses/freezes and eventually stops playback without more than a few seconds of actual playback coming through. It seems to be attempting to transcode which of course NAS can't handle.

 

The files are direct rips of DVDs using MakeMKV-- standard MPEG2VIDEO with AC3 audio, they do have VOBSUB/DVDSUB subtitles but I've disabled subtitles in the Xbox app settings per this post. I've also tried setting playback to Auto and to the highest 4K/120Mbps setting.

 

 

At the top of the transcode log it says

&Level=51&Profile=high

 

but later in the log all references to level are now 41. The same thread I linked earlier says Xbox can't handle above level 41. Anything off here?

I also see some promising bits like SupportsDirectPlay and SupportsDirectStream are both recognized as Yes in the log...

 

Thanks for any help. These same files are playing without problem via DLNA in the Xbox's 'Media Player' app.

What happened here was we tried to direct play the file, the microsoft video player then reported an error with it and so we automatically switched to transcoding.

It looks like when I turned off subs it didn't stick-- so they were still turned on. Not sure, such a simple thing for me to miss, anyway file played the full minute now.
