I'm able to see live captions in hdhomerun view, is that feature coming to Emby? I can do all else. My hdhomerun tuner is auto recognized with Emby, I have a TV Guide using Schedules Direct. Very nice. I can even limit my guide to my favorite channels, schedule recordings just fine.

The missing piece is captioning and subtitles both live TV and recorded.

Willing to participate in any beta program to help get this off the ground.

Thanks for this great product.

Hi

Its already in BOTH android apps.

Just Turn it on from the OSD.

However, @ebr I have just noticed a problem with CC with latest beta .27 build when using new "seek" enabled viewing.  If you switch on CC in OSD the stream restarts and comes up with "Cannot play this video format" followed by "unable to tune to channel at this time".

CC is NOT showing for live TV.

I have HDHOMERUN Extend HDTC-2US tuners.  Captions / Subtitles show in the stream when I play using VLC, but when I play live or playback recorded tv (from live source), they do not display.

This is on Windows 10 Creators version (latest) and HDHOMERUN Firmware: 20170406beta1

@kim_lombard, as a test, what happens when playing in the emby web app? are the subtitles selectable there?

When I play from http://localhost:8096/web/livetv.html there is no CC option available to me (either live tv or recorded tv - from live tv OTA source).

Interestingly enough if I play a downloaded tv show, something like "24 Legacy" that has a .srt matching subtitle file,  all is well.  the CC option is there and it shows in the information screen as well as on the navigation bar at the bottom as you would expect.

Oh, I should also say that the stream is in the .mpg file.  I can record from Emby and playback with VLC Media Player and the subtitles show.

Luke,

Thanks for looking into this.

Most recent ffmpeg logs

Two of these are from video files, not live TV. I looked at the one from Live TV and there were no subtitles in that stream you were playing, and that's why nothing was available in the Emby app.

Trying again.

If I watch the exact same channel on VLC at the same time (HDHomeRun has 2 channels, per device).  I see subtitles.

.pic shows VLC along side Emby, same tuner, same channel, same time.  (slight lag due to buffering on emby, I'm guessing)

Did you ever figure out what was wrong? I have the same problem on my setup. I'm using an HDhomerun with Emby's live tv feature. OSD for both the Android app and Android TV don't give me a closed captions option.

"No Closed Captions / subtitles for live tv with HDHomeRun.  Doesn't seem to work for either Android or Windows 10 PC"

Is this true?  This is exact same problem I have just run into.  It affects Live-TV recordings too.  I am not getting any subtitles in any stream coming from my tuner.

I have HDHomeRun Extend and W10 everywhere.  if I use the HDHomeRun Store app I can toggle subtitles on and off and see them when they are on.  So I know they are in the source from the tuner.

I then open up Emby Theater desktop, or store version, or all three at same time, and no subtitles available in Emby Theater (store or desktop versions).  But I still have them in HDHomeRun.  Under Settings/General I have "Always play subtitles" selected.  It doesn't make any difference with other subtitle settings.

For a recorded show from tuner,  I can download subtitles and then they play, but since commercials present, sync is all messed up.  So subtitle functionality is in Emby Theater, but is just not available from my HDHomeRun tuner streams.

I can also view same station through browser via Emby Connect and same result.  4 different views of station on my PC at once (triple monitor) and no subtitles but on HDHomeRun app.

In HDHomeRun I don't have and PVR or time-shift since I thought I could get it in Emby Premiere.  Having subtitles is a big need for me since hearing not so good anymore.

I concur. Captions use to be visible from live tv but apparently stopped after a recent update. I'm trying to nail down a date, but i haven't figured it out yet.

HDHR3-CC, Device ID: 131127D9, Firmware: 20161117
Emby v3.2.20.0

I verified Captions work on HDHomerun v1.1.204 (Windows 10)
No captions option via Android, Web view, or Samsung TV apps.

Tried with "Live TV Tuner Setup" "Allow hardware transcoding" on and off.

Well here in the uk I get DVBSUB subtitles in Live and recorded TV from HDhomerun through Emby.

So it looks as though this issue is region specific.

Just updated and checked everything again.  I have captions in HDHomeRun store app but no subtitles in W10 Emby store app, or option to turn them on/off on the menu.  Emby Server Version 3.2.20.0.  HDHomeRun EXTEND Model HDTC-2US Firmware Version 20161119.  I am in central USA.

I am sure HDHomeRun would like us to subscribe to their premium service.  Hopefully they are playing nice in my firmware version 20161119.

Same here, no closed captions on live or recorded TV.
