Fazz1977 0
Hi Gang, As a long time HT enthusiast, I recently bought an AS-204T and loaded it up as a storgae solution for my media collection, to upgrade my aging DLink solution. Having trialled a number of media server solutions (Twonky = ok, no transcoding, MiniDLNA = Fast, no transcoding, Plex = Feature-rich, doesn't play friendly with Kodi... in fact it breaks the database) I thought I'd try our Emby, as all the Kodi users out there say it's the best solution for a Kodi frontend, as the databases are both natively cross-compatible. I can install Emby on the NAS from App Central, it informs me that it will install dependent apps "Mono" and "XOrg" at the same time. Neither install at the same time. I can install Mono as a standalone, but noit XOrg. XOrg doesn't even show up in the app central area for my NAS, but does show up as a downloadable APK elsewhere on the Asustor site. This APK won't install either, giving the error that it's not a valid installer or is corrupt. I think Emby should work if I can get both of those apps installed. Does anyone have a lead on a working installer for the XOrg app for Asustor NASs? Cheers gang!!!
Luke 36886
Does AppCentral list the supported models? is it possible that yours just doesn't fall into that ? We are going to be looking into making our own Asustor package because haven't been too pleased up to this point with the package put together by Asustor.
Fazz1977 0
Hi Luke, Thanks for the response! Technically it isn't in the "supported models" but if I followed that list, nothing would work, when in fact, everything works except Emby/XOrg, even if my unit isn't on the supported list. Asustor's response was "if you can access the installed from "App Central" inside your ADM, it's supported". I have read theres performance issue on the asustors, which is a pity because my unit is quite capable, it handles Plex quite well, which is much heavier on resources than emby is (from my PC testing anyway).Currently I'm having to use Kodi on my main HTPC and various DLNA devices around the house, paired with Plex/Trakt.tv, not ideal, I'd rather keep it all in-house with Kodi/Emby/DLNA clients.I downgraded the NAS firmware last night in an effort to see if that helped... it didnt. What I did notice though is that the Emby installer asks for a version of XOrg that doesn't actually exist. The version available to us is an earlier one. XOrg/Asustor need to get an updated version up.
geoff511 7
Hi Fazz, I've got the AS5004T and have had no trouble installing the dependencies requ. for Emby. X.Org is vers. 10.14.7.R22 and Mono is 4.6.2.r .. working with Emby vers. 3.1.5.0 (even though App. Central says it's vers. 3.1.2.r1). Re using kodi as the frontend ... yes totally agree ... Kodi with fusion addon and metropolis skin, you will have heaps great features and look good too. Have a look at this post - https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45361-emby-on-asustor-is-not-the-real-emby-experience/&do=findComment&comment=426012 It might give you an idea on how to get round your problem. Because all my installs/updates for X.Org, Mono and Emby have gone in. (BUT I don't use the Asustor Emby updates any more, but instead update it manually, since the Asustor Emby updates wipe everything and take about 27 hours to rebuild the database) Just a little side note to Admin Luke - it would be great if you could make your own Asustor package, specially since it's just basically the Linux Mono version with a couple of band-aids added to it to make it "stick" into the Asustor's odd way of doing things. Look forward to hearing of a release date. Just wish I could help you more Fazz. -- good luck

Asustor told me XOrg won't install due to the 204T not being a HDMI output device, and the framework is designed for that. I'd never use my NAS as a client device, too friggin' noisy and bright. I just wanted to host Emby server as a backend for my Kodi/DLNA gear. Looks like until Emby do their own installation I'm stuck using Plex/Trakt to sync said data. Thanks again!!!
