Subtitles for Recorded TV stopped working properly again

For about the last month ( I can't remember at what beta version this problem started),

The subtitles work as long as the maximum steaming bit-rate is set to auto. However skipping ahead to skip adds does not work, the player reverts to the start position.

If I set the bit-rate to a lower value subtitled are not displayed at all.

All other video files (movies, TV Shows) play with subtitles perfectly.

I'm using latest beta version of app and latest server.

Next PVR back-end and plugin.

Please find attached all logs.

Let me know if you require more info.

The logs look OK so I'm afraid the problem is not obvious. Can you provide a sample video for testing? thanks !

Have you confirmed the problem occurs with this sample clip? because sometimes after creating a sample, you'll find the sample ends up working. thanks.

Hi Luke,

Of course, I wouldn't have sent the clip if it was showing the subtitles.

This only occurs on my android phone and tablet. All other Emby apps don't have the problem.

Sorry to be a pain, I can't believe more people aren't experiencing this problem. Maybe it's something peculiar on my system.

This morning I noticed that subtitles were again working on my android devices.

However (you must dread this word Luke :) )

For any quality setting above 720p - 1Mbps, the subtitles are displayed in the center vertically and hard over to the left hand side, and are extremely small font and almost unreadable on my phone.

By lowering the quality to 720p - 1Mbps they are displayed in the centre at the bottom as you would expect

Another thing I noticed is that when fast forwarding or re-winding there is an 8 second delay before play resumes.

And when setting quality at 1080p - 10Mbps and above, the playback reverts back to the start and the progress buttons only reverts the progress to the start.

  • 2 weeks later...

What exact problem? I'm not able to reproduce what you mentioned in the previous post. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply Luke.

Please find attached 2 screenshots from my phone, the names should make them self explanatory.

As stated above:

For any quality setting above 720p - 1Mbps, the subtitles are displayed in the center vertically and hard over to the left hand side, and are extremely small font and almost unreadable on my phone.

By lowering the quality to 720p - 1Mbps they are displayed in the centre at the bottom as you would expect

I've been doing lots more testing and after clearing the data from the app it re-sets to: Quality Auto-direct but with no subtitles until I re-toggle them, even though I always have subtitles to Always play in the Playback Settings.

So I guess my main problem is not so much the subtitles, but the inability to fast forward to skip adds when Quality is set above 1080p-6Mbps. The playback reverts back to the start and the progress buttons only reverts the progress to the start.

Let me know if you need logs.

As stated above, this behavior is only in the android app, and only with recorded TV.

OK this is what i'm now observing:

The subtitles are working well, so if you want to move this post to a more appropriate area, please do.

The seeking is still not working for all quality settings.

When watching a recording from an HD channel (1080p H264) seeking will only work when the quality is set to 1080p-6Mbps and below.

When watching a recording from a  SD channel (480p H264) seeking will only work when the quality is set to 480p-2.5Mbps and below.

So if I just leave my android devices set on the lowest setting it all works well.

This isn't too much of a problem for me, just though i should let you know in case it can be  improved on.

I would need a sample file to test that, because I see no problems with the one you sent me. Thanks.

Hi Luke

I've PM'd you a link to my Dropbox for a recorded TV file for testing.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else.
