Old/Free Emby Theater Video Playback

I recently upgraded my HTPC to windows 10 and downloaded the new Emby Theater by mistake rather than the free version i had been previously using from the link http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/29908-previous-version. The biggest difference i noticed was that the playback quality, I am not in a position to buy the premium version but after returning to the free version, the videos look of a much poorer quality in comparison. Is there anyway i can bring my playback up to scratch using external players through the app etc ? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

The old version is using much older components. You might need to use an external player.

Iv managed to get it working but with one main issue, no matter which video i select from Emby Theatre it just seems to open one file. My media is stored on a server and i have directed the player to it in the command line. Any ideas anyone ? The file structure on the server is seperate hard drives with Film folders and then each individual film in its own specific folder

Cinema Mode is an Emby feature.  It won't be in MPC-HC.  Perhaps you need to back up and explain exactly what you've done first because I don't really understand what you are saying here:

and i have directed the player to it in the command line.

You don't point the player to your media.  The server handles that.

If by the above you mean you have set up an external player and, in the command line for that, you put in a hard coded path to your entire media library, then that would probably explain what you are seeing as you are telling the external player to open the same location no matter what media you select from within Emby.

Sorry about the confusion i am using the older version of Emby Theatre with MPC-HC as an external player due to not being able to hear files with DTS audio and also the poorer video quality in comparison to the external player. In the command line I have directed it to a whole folder on my network/home server not the emby server, as when i left the command line blank it came back with the error of "file not found"

Okay, so you've told MPC-HC to open a specific location and that's exactly what it is doing.

I think what you want to do is replace that path you put in there with the text: {path}

Originally it had {path} in and it could not find any files at all. Also the folder i have set it to look into has a number of different films in there, any idea why it would just open one ? its not located first in the folder or anything like that ?

That is probably an access or path substitution issue.  Did you define the network paths in the library setup?

I have no idea how MPC-HC is deciding what to play in that case but it doesn't matter.  That is not what you want to do.

The Emby Server is actually set up on my home server so i didn't need to input any network paths as they were stored locally on that machine.

As explained in the description on that screen, you do if you want direct access to the media from the Emby apps.  That is your problem.

You need to restore the command line to {path} and setup proper network paths for each of your library locations.  Then it all should work as it is designed.

Sorry about that, i will look into this when i get home and come back with an update. Thankyou very much for the quick replies and help on the matter

Okay.  To be clear - you want to leave the actual location paths set how you have them (local references on the server machine) and then fill in the "Network Path" optional field below that with the appropriate network access equivalent.

Managed to have a quick look this morning. Mpc-hc is now working as an external player but there are 2 copies of each film in my library. Only one of which will work. Iv attached a screenshot of my library, hope this helps

No... you see two now because you duplicated the folders.

Remove the folders with the network paths.  Then select each of the other folders and, on that screen, fill in the "Shared network path" with the proper value.

Updated as you advised and everything is now working perfect, thankyou very much again for the assistance. Just a quick question does the resume feature from Emby tie in with MPC-HC or will the file just start from the begging every time ?

I don't believe our resume functionality is supported with an external player (but my memory is fuzzy with this old app).  However, MPC-HC may save its own resume point and use that.
