The latest preview client throws the following error when attempting to playback DTS-HD MA titles:

This error only happens with playing back from the Roku Ultra client.  Roku 3 clients works fine (as do Apple TV, nVidia Shield and HTPC clients).  All my Roku's are now on the 7.5 firmware.

Since the Roku Ultra does not support bit-streaming, it would have had to attempt to just play the DTS core from the DTS-HD MA audio stream I would think.

Roku Ultra -> Denon AVR-X2200W -> LG 60UH7700 = above error when attempting playing back any DTS-HD MA title

Roku 3 -> Denon AVR-X6200W -> LG 84UB9800 = no problem.

On the Roku 3, when playing the above title, it direct plays.  The Roku Ultra drops out with the above message before play back begins.

Details from playing above title from Roku 3:

And view from server:

So perhaps this issue only occurs with the Roku Ultra?

You can only reproduce if you have a roku ultra _and_ (DTS is either selected on the hdmi setting _or_ DTS is detected using AUTO on the hdmi setting).

The problem is the roku isn't decoding the audio stream properly. It should be using the 5.1 DTS core, but isn't. This issue only affects DTS-HD MA on a roku ultra. It stems from the fact the roku ultra also has an optical spdif out. You should be able to use the optical out and get the DTS core. This bug on roku ultra only affects the HDMI.

See here: https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=96872

The solution:

Do not use DTS or AUTO on the HDMI setting of the roku, choose Dolby or Dolby+.

This will cause transcoding, but will keep surround and you can now watch your movie. :)

Thanks.  That did the trick!

If only Roku would hurry up and support bit-streaming already, all these issues would (hopefully) go away.
