mikeB2210 26
Today I´ve got my shield 2. After the setup I installed Android TV and I watch some movies to test the App. Here by I see that Movies with DTS sountracks are not decoded correct, Movies with DolbyDigital are playing the correct way. Any ideas?
ebr 14903
Check the audio settings on the device and confirm that your setup supports DTS. If that doesn't lead to a solution please provide the info requested in How to Report a Problem. Thanks.
mikeB2210 26
Check the audio settings on the device and confirm that your setup supports DTS. What do mean? Settings of the Shield 2? I didn´t found any settings regarding shield 2. I used Emby for Kodi the last month and all work very well. Maybe I can try to play the movies using direct path, which player do you recommend for the shield?
Luke 37008
The Emby app is the player we recommend. It supports DTS but you may need to configure audio settings on the Shield device.
mikeB2210 26
Today I installed Kodi Krypton and Emby for Kodi on the nvidia Shield. With this setup the DTS Soundtracks worked very well. So maybe there is a problem with the Android app?? There are no settings in the shield device for DTS. What do you need that we can check the problem? Edited January 18, 2017 by mikeB2210
Pancho 9
I currently own both Shield models (Referred as the 2015 Shield TV and the 2017 Shield TV). The internal hardware is 100% identical on both units, aside from it being 40% smaller (see attached pic) along with a much improved new game controller and a new non-rechargable remote. The one key difference is the 2017 version was released this week with an improved UI, Android Nougat (7.0) pre-loaded & the Shield Experience (5.0) installed by default. The Shield experience was just upgraded today (1/18/17) to 5.0.1. Nvidia stated that the Nougat 7.0/Android Exp 5.01 will be posted for all 2015 models sometime next week. I am currently running the ATV app 3.1.16g on the 2017 ATV and have no issues with DTS, Dolby, etc. No issues running full passthrough in SPMC either. What version of the Emby app are you currently running? Pancho Edited January 18, 2017 by Pancho

But I want to understand why the DTS soundtrack is Ok when I'm using the emby app with Kodi Krypton RC3 and the Soundtrack doesn't work with the emby Android app. Is there any settings on Emby server that I must set for this option, because movies with AC3 are played well with emby for Android TV. @@Pancho I use Emby 1.3.16g in trial version for test. ebr 14903
The best thing for you to do is to provide the information in the post I linked above - including sending a log from the app and providing the details explained in the "Android TV" section. Any ideas why your system reports not supported? ebr 14903
It isn't our system, it is the Shield and connection setup you have that is reporting that (we make a call to the Android system). Kodi is not an Android app so they are not using the same mechanisms. It is possible that either something in the new Shield or Android 7.0 is doing something differently here - although others have reported success with DTS-HD with their new Shields. I will have one of these tomorrow and can test it. The receiver you are attached to supports DTS-HD?
CBers 6766
@@ebr - could you add an ADVANCED user option (default off) whereby the ATV app just passes through what ever is fed to it, rather than the app trying to work it out itself. In some situations some will play fine and in some it won't. Just a thought, as some people might get some better/different results. We all know what Kodi can do, so things are possible.
mikeB2210 26
@@ebr Think I found the problem. My Receiver cannot play DTS-HD!! When I make the MKV´s from my Blurays I integrate the DTS-HD soundtrack. Example: In the DTS-HD soundtrack is the lower DTS Track included, Kodi plays this movie in DTS because in the Kodi settings I only marked my Receiver as DTS and not as DTS-HD. Your app makes no difference and plays the DTS-HD track and my Receiver stays on DolbySouround only:-( I tested another Movie: Gladiator. This Movie has only a DTS Soundtrack Playing with the Android App works great :-)) So maybe you can add something into the App to have a choice which soundtrack will be played. Thanks again for your support.
FrostByte 5042
Why can't you just pass DTS-HD and let the receiver worry about it. All DTS-HD tracks also contain a lossy DTS track (they have 2 streams). My receiver doesn't support DTS-HD either and I pass it DTS-HD tracks all the time. The DTS decoder in the receiver should be smart enough to use the correct one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DTS-HD_Master_Audio Edited January 20, 2017 by FrostByte
ebr 14903
So maybe you can add something into the App to have a choice which soundtrack will be played. You can switch audio tracks during playback now (and it will remember the next time you play that same item). Just hit the "speaker" icon on the OSD and choose the other track.
