Video content displaying as Music

When I set the default action for the main menu to...

Add-On -> Video Add-On -> Emby -> Movies -> Movies

I end up with...

ActivateWindow(Music, library...

I've tried changing the string in guisettings.xml in the userdata folder to "ActivateWindows(Videos,library...", but every time it changes itself back. What am I doing wrong here?

This only started in the last couple of days after I reset my local database. In the past when setting the default action I used...

Video Library -> Movies -> Movies

Because my Emby Movie library would be listed in the Video Library, this no longer seems to be the case. I could use...

Video Library -> Emby -> Movies

But I can't select Movies again to get to the all listing, so I just end up on the Movies sub menu and have to select Movies again every time. I want to select Movies from the Main Menu and get the all movies listing though.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with Kodi 16 Jarvis on my Android TV. Using my own custom home items in the Aeon MQ5 skin, and after what I suspect is automatic update to 2.3.35 for Emby for Kodi, the earlier defined links to Emby video nodes no longer work.

I used to be have a home menu item with a shortcut to "Video Library -> Movies -> Movies" which no longer worked. No problem, so I try to redefine the custom home item in the skin which allows browsing through all Video nodes; after the update (?) I need to go through  "Video Library -> Emby -> Movies" and would expect another subitem "Movies" to get "Video Library -> Emby -> Movies -> Movies" as the full path but that is not available (which, as dcutler describes, then has the result of first showing the Emby menu with Movies / Favorite Movies / Recently Added Movies / ... instead of providing directly the listing of the library). As an alternative, when going through the "Video Add-on/Emby" node in Kodi, the "Movies -> Movies" subnodes DO exist to form a full shortcut path "Video Library / Video Add-On / Emby / Movies / Movies", but the node is recognized as of type "music" and not "videos".

Could this be related to the 2.3.35 update, which now provides (as listed here) "Emby video nodes now have their own parent node" ? What information is needed to troubleshoot this further? Do you need some screenshots to clarify what is going on?

Not sure how to create a favorite as you described.

Am I not able to edit the guisetting.xml file and save the changes? Is there somewhere else I need to make the necessary change?

I looked into this and am reasonable sure the issues are in the skin helper scripts the skins are using.

Ok, interesting given that it worked fine for months with the same script and the same helper scripts :). I suppose you are referring to the video library being incorrectly identified as "music"?

The main problem is in fact that there is no direct link to the contents of the library anymore when navigating the Video nodes (e.g.. Video Library -> Emby -> MyMoviesLibrary -> MyMoviesLibrary) as before -- now the last node which directly lists the content of the node is missing so the only option is to select the "library overview" node.

One workaround is to create a favourite of the video node you want from the video library node and then use that favourite as your menu item.

I was also able to work around the issue by using tag based navigation (as every library in Emby gets their own tag, it is possible to filter on that). That again links directly to a content video node and not to the "library overview" node.

This solution worked for me, thanx!

Nope, I was referring to not being able to select a node deeper than 2 and it not fall back to the parent. We might be talking about different things then.

No idea what you mean with the no content link in nodes thing. If you use the videos main menu to navigate to the nodes you don't see the content?

Also you can view all the node files in the users data path/library to see what the nodes contain.

Hrm... interesting. I'll have a deeper look into it on my Android TV and report back with some more details & screenshots. I'm new to Kodi, Emby and Emby for Kodi so also the exact terminology of "video nodes", etc is also new to me, which does not exactly help pinpointing exactly the issue :).

In particular, if this is related to the helper scripts of the Aeon skin, then the problem might vanish (for me at least) with the release of Kodi 17 (with a IMHO very nice default skin that I'll probably switch to at releasetime). The best would be to use the Emby app on Android, which unfortunately does not support subtitles as easily as I would hope :). That's for another time & another thread in another galaxy...

@@marcelveldt - Have you seen this? Any idea what's going on with the interaction with skin helper? Cheers

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi there,

Long time kodi user and just recently looked at Emby. Liked the idea, sined up as a live time member, installed the Emby addon which worked just fine but once I started adding shortcuts I had the same problem as dcutler. Every shortcut to a video library shows up as type Music. Tried the favourites tip but creating a shortcut to the favourite shows me an empty directory. Running the latest version of Kodi 17.0 with the Titan skin.

Is there another workaround or a fix for this?

Thank for your help!

I`m having this issue as well unfortunately ... It also only seemed to start for me after doing a database reset (it previously worked seamlessly).

Has anyone come across a solution at all (other than the favourites trick?). The issue with the favourites workaround for me is that my homescreen on EstuaryMOD skin uses widgets to pull the list of recently added tv shows. As a result I can`t use a favourites link to the relevant emby node to show this info on the screen (see screenshot below - top row of shows)

For those trying to fix the issue I`ve attached a few screenshots below.

Clicking on the first new show from the `recently added shows` widget (note the identification as music in top left):

Clicking through to the episode level:

What it should look like (screenshots taken by going through the emby addon rather than using the widget links):

My current setup is kodi 17.0 (Feb 5 2017 stable) using EstuaryMOD 1.7.8 skin on 1st gen Nvidia Shield TV running Android 7 (Nougat). I am running EmbyServer 3.2.1.0 from a synology DS415+ NAS. Although the issue first came up on older versions I have subsequently upgraded all components to see if that would fix the issue - unfortunately it hasn`t.

Any workarounds or ideas appreciated!

Has anyone been able to figure out what's going on? It is driving me nuts. Sub menus are worthless...widgets are worthless. If you go through Video library>Emby>Movies it shows as video content but you can't drill down the the actual movies, recently added, or in progess, so all you get is another menu when you select it from the home screen. If you go through add-on>video add-on>emby>movies>movies or recently added or in progress, it displays the right list of content but it shows up as music no matter what skin I use. Thanks all.
