EMBY/WMC initial load fast subsequent loads slow

Hi,

I have just installed Windows 7 for a friend
Downloaded and installed EMBY server 3.1.2.0
Downloaded and installed Media Browser Classic 3.0.307
If I reboot server, get into WMC and then EMBY straight away, it loads EMBY, auto logs on with my user and I can browse my Movie Collection almost immediately.
However
If I wait for 5 minutes (roughly) before getting into EMBY after rebooting server
OR
I get into EMBY immediately after rebooting (which happens quickly), exit EMBY and then wait 5 minutes (roughly) before getting back into EMBY
Load time is slow (maybe 10-15 secs) to get into EMBY and then another 10-15 secs to be able to browse my Movies (or TV) Collection
Need to enter and exit EMBY regularly as Live TV is watched via WMC configuration.
The only quick load is the one immediately after a reboot.
Not sure whats going on.

Windows, Server, Classic all running on same machine
Running Chocolate theme 3.0.8.9  (same issue if I select Classic theme)
In WMC, under the Advanced Tab, the server is pointing to the correct ip address

I have attached the Server log..I rebooted at around 16:29...Exited EMBY and then attempted to get into EMBY again at 16:34pm (when it loaded slowly)

Any thoughts ???
Thanks in advance

Hi.  I would need to see the Emby Classic log for a session that was slow.

Do you have the weather turned on?

Last Night I restored the system to a fresh version of Windows 7 and re-installed Emby Server and Classic.

I am still experiencing the same problem but not as bad a as previously. Not sure if it will get progressively worse as the days go by.

Attached are the Classic Logs as requested

I Shutdown the server at 0800

Started Windows server at 0803

Entered EMBY Classic at 0804   (fast to open)

Exited EMBY Classic at 0805

Re-Entered EMBY Classic at 0810   (slower to open)

And I do not have the Weather Turned On

Thanks

I have the same issue with three MCE's in the house. I thought this was a server issue, but on testing the server doesn't appear to be the issue. I could provide my logs for comparison?

I attached the 4 log files because between 0800 and 0812 when I was doing the actions, the system produced the 4 files. The 4 files just covered the whole timeline.

I've converted. I love it.

This config is for a friends PC and they arent convinced of the Live TV interface and as silly as it might sound, the personal photo picture slide show that WMC has that Emby Theater doesnt, is a show stopper for them at the moment.

I'll have to go look at exactly what is going on here but have you actually timed the response?  Are we talking about just 5 seconds or more than that?

I notice one operation at startup that, I believe, is disk bound that is taking longer in one session vs. the other one:

2017-01-06 08:04:46.6395,Info,,Total Kernel Init took 0.50 seconds.,1,Application
2017-01-06 08:11:48.8239,Info,,Total Kernel Init took 3.95 seconds.,1,Application

Well I guess all of them, it happens often and I haven't kept track of the times. I just just picked one and attached.

Hi.  If we're talking about performance in EMC, then please post an EMC log.  Instructions are here.  Thanks.

I rebooted the server and did some indicative timings with a stop watch and have attached the Media Classic log and Server Log for the time period.

Server rebooted at 15:08

Windows Loaded at 15:09

Clicked on the EMBY icon (took about 9 seconds to logon and show the Movie/TV icons)

Clicked on the Movie Library Icon (~600 movies) and took about 2 seconds to load

Exited EMBY about 15:10

Waited 5 minutes

Clicked on EMBY icon at 15:15 (took about 30 seconds to load)

Clicked on Movie Library Icon (took about 25 seconds to load)

Rebooted server (about 15:23)

Windows loaded about 15:24

Entered EMBY (took 9 sec to load)

Clicked on Movie Library (took about 2 seconds)

Exited

Waited until about 15:32 to re-enter EMBY (took about 49 secs to load)

About 28 secs to load Movie Library

Exited and re-entered EMBY about 15:33 (37 secs to load)

Have attached the Media Classic Log and the Server log for the time period.

Also using an SSD drive

Are the server and the client running on the same machine?

You only posted one EMC log and it looks like it took about 7 seconds for it to fully load.

Server and Client running on same machine.

The EMC log was in a few files. I just joined them up into the 1 file for ease of viewing.

Okay, so, when EMC is slower to open, is the server application doing something perhaps?  Or, maybe some other process is running on the machine at that time?

The server is a dedicated Media Center Server and Client.

No other jobs running in task manager

CPU usage minimal.

So when you said earlier that it took 7 seconds to load, was that the timing after the reboot? I think I said about 9 seconds but thats me using a stop watch so that sounds about right.

Did you see the difference in the  timings for the subsequent loading of Emby when I said it was taking about 30 seconds to load or did the log say they all around the 7 second length as well?

Most of the startups look like they took less than 5 seconds but there is one that looks like it took 6 seconds to initialize SQLite alone.  That may be the wildcard here...

  • Solution

Found the problem....

Sometimes its the simple things..

When I looked at the Task Manager previously I didn't look long enough at all the processes running.

Whenever I setup my servers, I change the Windows Update to update only when I want to.

When watching the task manager for a while with no jobs running, I noticed the CPU usage higher than what I thought it should be.

After drilling down I noticed the system was checking for Windows Updates.

I then monitored for a few hours and the system was STILL checking for Windows Updates (with my Internet connection hard wired to the server) and it chewing up enough CPU to be an issue with loading EMBY.

I have now completely disabled Windows Updates, EMBY loads quickly.

Microsoft and Windows 7 Updates...
