intheory 0
I am using Emby on my desktop with all ports forwarded and opened. If I use the URL on the dashboard on my phone or any device not on my network it works fine. However, any app (Roku, Xbox and iOS) the app fails to load the server. Not sure what to do? I had to check the setting labeled "Report https as external address" otherwise the app wont load even using a browser. Any ideas what to do? Luke 37060
Have you tried manually entering the server address into the app?
ginjaninja 533
If only external devices work...it does suggest that perhaps the ports are not as open as you think against the local network...does url phone work on wifi as well as cellular? On a normal home betwork with a single subnet theres isnt much to go wrong beyond general ip connectivity and firewall. Can you ping your roku from the server at least then there is a link if not an unfirewalled link...check your dhcp server is giving out same subnet mask to roku that server has..check the server has a single network interface for simplicity. intheory 0
Have you tried manually entering the server address into the app? I have tried entering the server address into the app but it still fails to connect. Even when copying from the URL in Safari that it is working on. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk If I am on my network the app will work fine on any device that I am using. I currently run it on the iPhone 6, desktop, 3 roku's and a Amazon FireTV. If I take the app outside the network then the app will not work on any device. However, if my phone is off the Wi-Fi network and I type the URL form the dashboard then I am able to watch it through the browser. This also works on other computers too. But when I use the app on the same devices it wont connect to the server. The only setting I really changed in the server from default settings was to use the HTTPS instead of HTTP because the browsers on any device internal and external wont connect until it is HTTPS. I have gone to canyouseeme.org and typed in the IP address and Ports that I am using and it shows that the port is open. I have also tried running Plex Media Center and it works both internal and external. However, Plex limits the quality when on an external network so I was wanting to check out Emby more. intheory 0
Does Emby Connect work? Yes I believe so, that is the one that you type the pin in to connect the device to the account right? If you use http instead of https does it work? If I use HTTP then the external and internal browser streaming doesn't work. The internal app (roku) works and external apps still don't work. However, the port still shows open when using the port checker. Edited December 2, 2016 by intheory
Luke 37060
Hi there. I would suggest taking a look at our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know exactly which ones succeed and which ones fail. Thanks !
intheory 0
Hi there. I would suggest taking a look at our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know exactly which ones succeed and which ones fail. Thanks ! All the steps from this troubleshoot works, which is why I am confused. It has you test everything using a browser which hasn't had any issues. It is just the apps when external. Browser external works fine.
Luke 37060
Ok so let's choose one of the apps as an example. Can you tell us exactly what steps you are taking, for example, what are you clicking, what are you entering, etc? Thanks !
intheory 0
Ok so let's choose one of the apps as an example. Can you tell us exactly what steps you are taking, for example, what are you clicking, what are you entering, etc? Thanks ! When I use the Roku, I open the app (after just installing) and presented with a PIN to go and activate online. I then activate it online by entering my user name, password and then the PIN. After entering that information the Roku automatically refreshes and then displays the Server name. I select the server name and after about 1 minute it displays an error saying that it is unable to connect. From there I try 2-3 more times. Once it has failed multiple times I then go to the manual adding server option and type in the IP address first starting with HTTP:// and then select next. The next thing it asks for is the Port number which I re-verify on the Dashboard of Emby and then enter it and continue. It errors out within 10 seconds and states that it is unable to connect. Once both methods have displayed an error I then check the website canyouseeme.org to verify that the Port is open and forward properly. It shows open and I try connecting to the server both methods again resulting in the same issue.
Luke 37060
When you enter the address manually, can you try it without starting with http:// so for example: 192.168.1.100 The app should be handling it both ways, but I just want to confirm this isn't the issue. Thanks !

Thanks ! Since the app is not on the same network I used the "Remote access" IP and Port number. It still didn't connect. But when I have the app registered it does show my server name, it just doesn't connect. If it helps I can private message the remote access information so you can see. intheory 0
Any other things I can check? I like that there is no bandwidth cap using this app vs Plex but I can't figure out how to get this app to work.
Luke 37060
Are you by chance running a VPN or proxy? thanks.
intheory 0
Are you by chance running a VPN or proxy? thanks. No VPN and/or Proxies. Made sure to reset all settings on the computer network to make sure that it is not interfering. Also verified that all ports are forwarded, NAT is disabled and Firewall is open. smwalk83 0
I'm experiencing the same problem as intheory on Roku. After troubleshooting on the phone with the owner of the server we've come up blank. Ports forwarded, firewall open, used the PIN, tried manually entering the server address, all with the same result. If anyone finds a solution I'd love to know. smwalk83 0
Unfortunately all of the steps in the troubleshooter were fine, as was the case with the other user. intheory 0
So that means you're able to use other devices but just not Roku? Would there be an option that I could private message you my server info and you can check settings to make sure everything is correct?
