Show Off Your "Home Theater"

Before everyone pounces on me, I know there is a "show off your rig" thread already out there... But that thread is geared toward emby server and basic client rigs with some home theaters mixed in...   What I would love to see here is pictures of your "Home Theater", a home theater being something which, at the least, has a multi speaker surround system.   I'm working on building my home theater now and would love to get some ideas!!

Again, looking for home theater systems, lots of speakers big screens or projectors and any other goodies that you may be using. Of course showing what emby client you are feeding it with!

I'm planning to post some updated pictures, later. Mine isn't fancy, I went for functionality first, but now I'm starting to improve the aesthetics. You should get @@Xzener to post some pictures of his. It's amazing! What size room are you working with?

Ok, so I took a few pics of my setup. I'm planning to make a few changes in the not too distant future.

I have an Atmos 7.1.2 speaker configuration. Using Atmos enabled front speakers, instead of in-ceiling TMD.

The Atmos enabled forward speakers are Pioneer Elite SP-EFS73

For my surrounds, I have Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Not fantastic, but good enough until I upgrade at some point.

The TV is just your basic 55" Samsung. The sub-woofer is a Polk Audio. Center channel is also a Klipsch. The receiver is a Pioneer Elite SC-95. An excellent receiver for the money. To the left of the receiver is my HTPC with an i5 6500 CPU. I use the on-board HD 530 GPU, mostly because there are no extra fans to make more noise.

To the right is the server.

  • i7 6700k
  • 16GB DDR4
  • 1 Samsung 950pro m.2, 256GB SSD (primary)
  • 1 2TB seagate HDD
  • 2 3TB seagate HDDs
  • 8 4TB HGST NAS drives

I also have DreamScreen, for when I'm in the mood for more visual affect.

I have a lot of fun with all of this  :D

The first two are of our old house in CO.  I basically built this room from scratch - custom speaker boxes and wired the entire house into the media closet in pic #2.

We recently moved back to TX into a house that had a media room - and fortunately had a spare linen closet just behind the theater room where we could wire everything away from the theater.

The rack is currently housing my Windows 8 server running Emby - and the theater is powered by a custom PC in the Akasa case running Kodi (OpenELEC).  The Denon AVR-2113 runs the theater audio while the Onkyo and HTD power the 6 zone home audio system.  I control all this from an iPhone with the SimpleControl app.

I do have a large 200" screen, with a projector, but haven't finished the basement to put it up yet. LOL

Chef, are you making a full theater room, or just a nice room for the projector? You should go full theater, even if takes every penny you've got lol

Very nice! Are you gonna put your TMD speakers directly in the ceiling? I just have Atmos enabled forward speakers. I can't put my TMDs in the ceiling. One day, I hope to have that.

My current Yamaha only supports 5.1.2, so I'm going to be doing the front "prescene" channels, mounted about 6 inches above and to the sides of the TV.

I'm sure you've researched it, but if you're using independent speakers mounted above your fronts, for your TMDs. Make sure the angles are set correctly for your environment. If they're misaligned, the 'dome' effect is lost and you won't hear much difference. And in the receiver, make sure you set your ceiling hight. I wrestled with mine, as my ceiling is pitched. I decided to go with purposely designed speakers and matching receiver, to improve measurement and acoustic accuracy

Yeah the room has a "vaulted" ceiling that on the right side is 8 feet, and raises to roughly 11 feet on the other.

You can overcome that, as your TMDs aren't fixed in place. My suggestion would be to put them on shelves and lay them on their back. Assume (or measure) the middle is around 9.5ft, enter that in the receiver. Then angle the speakers a little at a time, until you can hear them in your seating position. Mine are fixed position and I can't do this, so I had to use a bit of 'Kentucky Windage' with the calculations.

problem is the room is twice as wide and vaults back down as the area you see in the pictures, the other half is unusable space mainly the stairwell etc.  While it may not be optimal my plan was to mount them above and to the sides in the front.  Per the manual for my receiver this is one of 3 options that can be "programmed" into it for Atmos and it will compensate as such.  I like your idea of shelves etc, but it's not a feasible option in the room.

heck if I knew it would pass the "WAF" I'd just get something similar to projector mounts so I could mount them at equal heights above the listening space, once the lights are off who cares right?? lol but the wife I know would NEVER allow this just for the sake of a better listening environment lol  While I'm really into it and all she's a typical woman and just want's it to work and look pretty lol

Yup, I understand. Mine is open space behind, too. It has no effect on the TMDs. I'm sure it'll sound great with presence speakers :)

Lol... There is some truth to that. But I'll tell you, once you experience it in your own home, there's no going back...even your wife will approve lol
