Two more observations: the video framerate falling is most evident during commercials and I'm seeing FFMPEG "remux" logs rather than "transcode" logs now.

Does the name of the log file matter?

Remuxing means changing the container type where transcoding means converting the content type. I'm curious why it needs to remux when all of the hardware in the devices should support the MPEG4/h.264 format the HDHomeRun EXTEND provides.

I'm not certain right now (purged the logs) but I suspect the remux might be from a Surface 2 RT.

Not all devices can support an mpegts transport stream.

Oh, right, forgot the TS. Makes sense that Surface RT wouldn't support that.

I'm still somewhat concerned about the choppiness in commercials. I'll have to wait until a sports game is on to see if it will remain a problem.

This seems to be fixed in Emby Server 3.1 and Android TV 1.3 for HD (1080i/720p) channels; however, there still seems to be problems with SD (480p) channels.  HD HomeRun has issues too.  The only difference (besides obvious bandwidth) I noticed between HD and SD is that the audio is encoded differently.  SD is usually stereo where HD is usually 5.1.  I think whenever trying to live stream SD, the server starts remuxing the audio and this causes it to skip (forever) or video to even lock up (about 5 frames into the stream).

If my theory is correct, it might be best to remux the audio on the Android TV device itself.  Is that possible?
