Genres are broken

I reported this under server testing area as well since this was working without any update to wmc app, my guess is its server related.  Anyway when you go into genres, the genre images all load perfectly fine.  However when you select any of them it brings up the home menu Movies, Live TV, TV shows, and Collections... at least thats what is on my home screen haha.  Then if you select any of those it completely locks up.

Well its clearly nothing to do with the latest server version as I have another server running on the stable release and its doing the same thing.  No love at all on this issue? :(

Do you see the issue in any other app? How about a server log from pulling up that particular screen?

I restarted the server, then accessed emby via WMC.  I went into movies, then movie by genre, selected a genre and then it brought me to a screen with my home screen icons Movies, Tv Shows, Live TV, and Collections.  Oddly enough I can now select those without the app crashing.  So I was even able to get into recordings via the wmc app.  It goes to that screen though no matter which genre I choose.  I have included an image to show you what I see and I have attached the log.

I don't believe you did because there is no mention of action in that log. The reason I'm asking for specifics is because i'm looking for the actual http request and there are over 300 occurrences of genres= in that log, simply due to the way the app constructs it's requests, not based on anything you did. Thanks.

Well I will do it again.  Are you not seeing this at all on your end?  Because I have two different servers in two different homes one on stable and one on beta both doing this.

I restarted the server, went into wmc, into emby, movies, movies by genre, action, live tv, recordings.  Those last two should not be options that are available to me.

ok a little more information for you! Its only if you select movies by genre from the movie sub menu.  I just added movie by genre to my main menu on WMC and that works fine.

Does that item actually say "Movies by Genre" or just "Genres"?

I can confirm the same issue.

In the past ( sorry that I have not posted this issue nor can provide exact server details ), this Selection did not work properly( at least for me ).  When selected, the Genres would display but without coverart ( I believe there is another thread with a solution to this issue ).  But when a particular genre was selected, the genre would be empty.

Since the last 2 or 3 server releases there has been a change.  The Selection  now loads coverart, but when selected the home menu system is shown instead of movies.

@@ebr, when selecting Movies, there are 4 options including Movies By Genre ( the option in question ).

in the sub menu its Labeled "Genres"  on the main menu its labeled "Movies by Genre"

So those two statements contradict each other...

I'm asking about the option that is NOT working - which would be the one under the movie library (I think).

Luke - if that is what it is (the option under the movie library) then that is the option returned when the request is made with the old "organization" option - where it gives back resume, latest, genres, etc.  That's why you couldn't find any reference to the genre name because that would just be retrieving by parent ID and that ID would be whatever was returned by the genre object under that "Genres" folder.

When you open wmc and get to the home screen, IF you have movie by genre enabled to show up on the home screen, it is labeled "movies by genre".  Then if you have the submenu enabled you do have the four options.  Resume, all movies, favorites, and Genres.  Its not labeled "movies by genre" its labeled "Genres".  If say you have some artwork that is labeled "movie by genre" that could make it confusing which maybe tester is seeing because it will show the same folder/poster art for both.  However, if you have your theme set to show the actual labels you can clearly see that the one under movie library / movie sub menu is labeled "genres"

The one labeled "genres" under the movie library is the one that is not working.

Genres is still broken in Emby for WMC.  Movies by Genres works, but go into a library, selecting genres and I get no items.  Has been this way for quite some time.  I know genres is in the database.  I can select a movie, select it's genre, and get other movies of the same genre.  But Genres on the first library screen gives NO ITEMS.

I am using the latest Emby Server 3.3.1 and latest Emby WMC 3.0.307.0 on Windows 7

This function would be so helpful!

I guess Emby for WMC doesn't receive much attention these days as it used to.

Well, I installed the latest beta and new genres is gone as a subview of a movie library.  Now Movies by Genre is there as a subview within each library.   However choosing it gives genres of movies for all libraries, not just the library selected.  For example, I have 2 movies libraries:  1) Blu-Ray Movies and 2) Classic Movies.  Going into either library and selecting Movies by Genre gives me movies from both libraries, no matter what.  I would like to be able to go into Classic Movies, select Movies by Genre and have it show only movies in that library for that Genre.

Is is because these libraries have the same content type (movies) that they are all common to this function?  If so, any way to make this work within each library?  Would make filtering much better and useful.
