My finger was hovering over the buy button last week! I decided to wait to hear more real world reviews.

If Project Fi is available in your area then over the course of a year you can potentially offset the upfront cost of the phone with a cheaper monthly plan. Assuming your mobile data usage is not too high.

I had a play with both in a local phone store.

Both look well built and have all the bells and whistles associated with a Google phone, but the prices are extortionate, although cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy equivalents.

I'm happy with my Nexus 6 running official Nougat for now.

Ordered a day after announcement, the price was quite the hike from my previously bought new Nexus 4, and lightly used Nexus 6 I currently use.

Mine is set to arrive ~1st week of November.

Here are my thoughts, and reasoning for spending this much on this particular phone.

The assistant feature intrigues me, and having it without hacking my build.prop or running a non stock rom is a plus (I've tried others, kept with Pure Nexus for a while, but kind of just like stock). A camera that doesn't lag and doesn't suck in low light (cough twice for my Nexus 6) is worth it to me. In-place Android updates (not a must, but a nice addition), and also a finger print sensor that is mainly seamless in actual use (as I don't lock my phone now as it will annoy me, however know that I should have some protection).

Also I have been fortunate enough (also grateful) to not pay for my cell phone bill for some time now (father-in-law business), so the cost of the phone isn't that bad considering.

I hate that: No wireless charging (Google for some reason has removed this fantastic feature since the 6P/5X development), and no front facing speakers (this is also a big miss).

Anyhow looking forward to getting it, opted for the monthly payment at 0%APR which is very reasonable (didn't really want to apply for new credit, but oh well).

I think there are other phones for similar $$ (and cheaper), but with the removal of the Note 7 (for good reason), this is the only new phone I'd consider that I don't feel I would have buyers remorse in that I should have bought something else.

Yea I think I like the regular Pixel over the XL. I am not sure I would want a smartphone that big.

I've gotten used to the size of my Nexus 6, so the XL will actually be smaller than what I'm used to.

My brother would agree with you, in that 4.3 - 5in is the perfect size, much bigger and it can be cumbersome and difficult to use with one hand.

I got my XL from FedEx last night, so far I love it!  Came from a Note4 so hard phone to compare against.  Needless to say I'm glad I made the switch and dont really miss the stylus. Pure Android is awesome.

I had the Nexus 6 (1st one) and just went with the Pixel XL. It is not as big as you think it is. It is about the same size as the mid version Crapple Iphone.

It is a great phone, I don't use wireless charging so no big deal missing out on that.

The front facing speakers are not needed, it is quite loud, I keep my volume at 70% and that is equivalent to the Nexus 6 on high volume.

NO SD Card, but oh well, I got the 128 gb version. What sucks is the True Blue version is only 32gb :(

The unlimited photo storage is nice, no more Amazon photos unlimited.
