Theater squeezed to top left each time AV Receiver is turned on

Hi Guys, I have purchased a Skull Canyon NUC, HD Homerun and a new AV Receiver as I love this project so much (Emby Theater on windows 10 is awesome especially now that I have dropped windows 7 media center and can stream live tv anywhere with the homerun).

So here is the problem: I want to leave Theater running all the time in full screen and have a logitech harmony remote wake and sleep the system.

However every time the receiver is turned off then back on while the HTPC is running Theater is squeezed into the top left of the display. I then have to use a wireless keyboard to maximise the window. I have attached a screen shot.

The Receiver is a new 2016 Yamaha RX-V381 (entry level 5.1). It replaces a 6 year old Denon AVR-1910 receiver that had the same problem.

If you have any ideas on how to fix this, it would surely save my sanity.

I can't offer a solution but I can tell you that my setup will do the same thing (so your not alone). My thought is that when the receiver turns off the PC drops to the default resolution which is 800x600, or something like that. When the receiver turns back on the PC detects a connection and goes back to 1900x1080 but ET does not redraw or detect the change in resolution. This never used to happen back in the VGA days, but with HDMI and the ability for these devices to talk to one another you get this behavior. Short of the Emby team resolving this, I would focus on finding a setting or program that will force your PC to not change the resolution when it looses a signal.

I have this issue. Is there any response from the developers? It just started recently too. I downloaded from the website the latest Stable Windows Server and Theater just last night with no change. Where to find logs for Emby Theater?

But I think this is a hardware problem. The 19th HDMI pin, to be clear. That's why I posted that link. It's a perfect solution

It would seem..

Five years plus and now there's HDMI / HDCP issues?

Hoping for a better solution.

I have always had to be sure that the AVR is powered up when Windows starts up (or comes awake) - otherwise it will not detect the proper audio or video capabilities.

For many, many years I have had my HTPC stay on 24/7 and had the Denon AVR 889 then 2312ci shut off. I use a Harmony 900 remote to do this and for the start up sequence it has always worked having it power up the AVR then issue an Alt F4 command to the HTPC, then it loads WMC. I load ET by having it in position 1 on the task bar and a button on the LCD screen of the remote (that still says Media Browser, BTW) launch ET. It loads not full screen. This has just recently started to occur. If I grab the keyboard and click the icon on the task bar it loads the same way. I need to add that this is an intermittent issue, sometimes it does this but most of the time it loads full screen which makes it quite frustrating to the point that I've told everyone to use the Roku Blue Neon Night Emby App instead, which is not a very good solution. I posted logs, did something show up that indicates what is happening?

I have had this for years. The difference was that MCE would just be full screen at 800x600. A close and reopen would fix it. Or even an Alt-Tab.

I need to remap the green button on my harmony to open Envy now as I get it occasionally.

I don't think this has anything to do Emby. Any window I have open behaves the same way. It's because of the control pin in the HDMI. Using the little widget that I linked to, resolves the problem.

I have the same experience since the latest update never occurred before with ET

i find it happens more often on ATI cards. Rarely happens with my Nvidia setup.

Since doing Pin19 mod on my ATI setup i havent seen this issue. The Dongle thing that Doofus linked to just blocks Pin19 so same thing as taping over it.

I was actually coming to report the same thing...  My PC stays on at all times, but the receiver shuts off... basically like just yanking the hdmi cable from the monitor....      I Can do the pin 19 thing i guess....    But is there any way that emby theater can constantly check if it is full screen or not, if not invoke some kind of full screen command...   After i wake things up and see the window shrunk down in the upper left corner, a simple click of the maximize button on the top right of the window snaps it back full screen...   So i would think it could be done in ET so I don't have to mess with my cables...    :)

It's a hardware issue. If you connect the computer directly to the tv, it won't happen (at least not in my case). I did a lot of searching for a solution for this. From what I gather, when the receiver shuts off, the control connection is broken, and windows has to reconnect when you turn the receiver back on. The only way to counteract it is to disable the control connection (the 19th pin). That's why I bought that widget.

Well that's pretty impressive.....  My first test playing a 4k 10bit video only consumed 48% total of my i3 cpu. The same video with hardware acceleration set to none, cant even be watched, the video lags so much, consuming 99% cpu.   I like it so far!   Ill post if there are any issues!!  Great move & Great work!!

Already made the switch to the test version, it seems to hold full screen state fine when resuming from low power state (s3) where previous version did not and just a few minor issues with remote (stop button does not work and have to use the "back" function to stop media playing) and other reporting a few minor flaws Edited by PrincessClevage
