Has/is anyone using an AFTV 4K model and MX Player Pro and successfully getting HD Audio i.e. Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio to pass through?

Which version of MX player is required for HD-Audio Pass-Through?   There might be a setting in MX Player that I'm missing.  I will try again this evening to get this to work.

It may not work on the Fire...  not sure.

I'm confused then as the new update states support for lossless HD audio through external players.

So, I did some more testing last night without much success.

Equipment for setup:

Amazon Fire TV (4K Version) on Emby 1.2.69A

MX Player version 1.8.6

Anthem AVM 50V (Can handle DTSMA and Dolby Trued)

Movies for Testing:

Runner Runner-MKV with DTSMA 5.1

Big Hero 6-MKV with DTSMA 7.1

We Are Marshall-MKV with Dolby True HD 5.1

National Treasure-MKV- 2 channel PCM

So my testing has not provided a solution just more questions:

I have MX Player 1.8.6 side loaded onto the AFTV (4K version), I could only playback stereo on National Treasure the other three movies had no audio.  Through some more research it looks like I need to install a codec for MX Player.  I will try this tonight.

I also Tried VLC Player-  DTSMA 5.1 tracks played back as 5.1 PCM(Runner Runner), DTSMA 7.1 played back as PCM 7.1(Big Hero 6),Dolby TrueHD play back as Dolby Digital 5( We Are Marshall) and Stereo PCM played back as Stereo PCM(National Treasure)

Using Emby Internal Player- Emby server Transcoded all four files.  Not sure why I thought Emby's Internal Player in the AFTV could play MKV's direct.  I'm sure I have a setting wrong.

Pictures below.

I've attached some logs.

I will keep testing.  Looks like the other thread states to try SPMC external player.

Cheers manutdsoc20-Jason

What the update announcement says is if you have a favorite other player or a need for support of things like HD Audio, then we provide the ability to use an external player.

We cannot guarantee what that other player will or will not support on each platform.

If SPMC runs on the Fire then I would imagine that it would have the widest support.

I installed SPMC 16.4.2 from here http://spmc.semperpax.com/ onto the AFTV 4K

In Audio Setting in SPMC I selected Android, PCM  and 7.1 to get the following:

Test Movies:  Runner Runner- MKV with 5.1 DTSMA track & We Are Marshall-MKV with Dolby TrueHD 5.1

I was able to get EMBY to launch SPMC and playback the MKV's and converted the  DTSMA and Dolby True HD  track to 5.1 48Khz PCM.

When setup like below(following the wiki for bit streaming HD Audio for Nvidia Shield)- I was only able to get DTS core track 1.5Mb/s and 5.1 PCM for Dolby TrueHD.

wiki-https://github.com/koying/SPMC/wiki/Recommended-passthrough-audio-settings-for-SPMC%2C-NVIDIA-Shield-TV-and-AV-Receivers

In the SPMC wiki it states there should be two more settings in the Audio Output options which states DTSMA capable receiver and Dolby TrueHD capable receiver.

As you can see from the below photo those options weren't available.

@@manutdsoc20 I'm not sure if you're looking for help with Emby here.  Put a movie with TrueHD audio on a flash drive and play it through that player.  Does it support bitstreaming that audio?  If it does but it doesn't when called through Emby then there could potentially be an Emby issue.  From reading your posts though I can't tell if the player supports that or not.

SPMC supports it.

@@manutdsoc20, I have not used SPMC yet, but in Kodi if I remember correctly, you have to enable Advanced or Expert settings in order to see those choices.  In Kodi, you toggle it in the lower left of the screen.

No help needed from Emby.  Just trying to help Denzoid and other AFTV users who use EMBY and want to bitstream lossless HD audio.

I had the settings set to Expert and the DTSMA and Dolby TrueHD capable receiver options were not available.  Will post a photo later to confirm.  Thanks for the assistance.

Please see the attached photo which shows Expert mode without the DTSMA and Dolby True HD option.

Bizarre.  I'll install it on my Shield over the weekend and see if I encounter the same thing.

Its gonna be fine on the Shield.  I just think that the Fire simply doesn't have the necessary hardware/software to support it.  It is older technology, was not designed for anything other than streaming media from the internet and is only running Android 5.1.1.

Interesting.  I didn't realize Kodi/SPMC configured itself  based on the hardware present.  I assumed it presented the config options and left it up to the user to choose what their hardware supports.

Regardless, I intended to install SPMC this weekend anyhow, so I'll report back anyway.  Thanks for the info.

So, I can confirm that the Shield does in fact show me the HD audio options you're unable to see on the AFTV install.

Thanks @manutdsoc20 (for the testing) and others who have also posted. I did post this question after reading about the latest update "..support for lossless HD..." Maybe I just read it with too much "wishfullness" My "ultimate goal" is to have a "box" that has a native Amazon Video App and also a Native Media Center app capable of HD Audio or HD Audio pass through. Specifically a box which does not require apps to be side loaded. I already have an Nvidia Shield which I can achieve HD Audio thru Kodi, SPMC, Plex or Emby, BUT the Amazon Video app is a side loaded apk from a Sony TV that's been circulating around the 'net and most likely will be blocked at some point via an update. Besides that the side loaded Amazon Video app only outputs 2 channel audio.

So if anyone knows of a box that can do what I am looking for please let me know, thx.
