Hi

Is there a way to disable timeshifting ? It seems to be impacting other things at the moment. It could be a cool feature, but it would be nice to disable it or make it optional in beta until it is a bit more mature.

The only way it can get mature in Beta is by testing it which, disabling it won't allow :).

True enough, but it is breaking direct play and people who would be testing are beating there heads over that. Making it optional which I hope it will be if it ever makes it to stable would

1) let people know

2) enable regular functionality (turn off) while it is being worked on.

3) enable the dev team to prioritize other efforts without negatively impacting users.

I test stuff all the time. Don't expect things to be perfect right away, but if it breaks other functionality it has either got to go.. or be optional

As we discussed when talking about the feature, I think time-shifting and direct play are kind of mutually exclusive.  In order for us to provide reliable time-shifting from all sources (without writing individual routines for every provider) we need to manage the stream through the server.

Very possible this feature becomes optional on final release (for people who care more about direct play than time shifting or stream sharing) but it will be very difficult for us to harden it if we just shut it off in beta now.

Thanks for your help :).

I am on Beta Release and use Emby Theater (Direct Play) and Android App on Nvidia K1 Tablet (Direct Play) to view Live TV streams with Emby Live TV.

Seems like I have two (2) options if I use Emby Live TV:

  1. Stay on Beta Release and don't attempt to view a Live TV stream, because it does not function with either Emby Theater or Android App. Provide no feedback on Live TV, because the two clients I use are not functioning.
  2. Move to Stable Release and perhaps get Live TV streaming to work. Provide no feedback on all other features that are in the Beta Release.

I posted this issue in a thread 3 days ago and it was not communicated that Direct Play of Live TV was disabled by design in the Beta Release. Would have been nice to know that.  https://emby.media/c...ct-play-issues/

I understand you guys are working on lots of unique and welcome new features, but it seems misplaced that if I stay on the Beta Release that I can't view Live TV streams from either Emby Theater or Android App, because they can Direct Play a TV stream.

If we had to develop and then troubleshoot options for the testing builds, we would never get anything done. The option is already there, which is using the stable release.

Luke,

I am fine with that and am not offended by your response for the most part.

But, shouldn't you give your Beta Testers a heads up that an upcoming release may disable a key function in two of your signature clients if they Direct Play Live TV streams? I use Emby Theater and Android app to view Live TV streams with Emby Live TV. Neither will initiate a stream, and I don't know of any option to force a transcode of the stream. I opened a Topic asking for support and you requested Logs of Server, Emby Theater and Android. Shouldn't your response have been to inform me that Direct Play of Live TV is disabled in Beta Release? If the logs help for future development efforts, that's cool.

Perhaps I am missing something, but a mention in the github release notes informing us that Direct Play of TV streams would not work with Emby Live TV in the Beta Release would have been helpful.

I know you guys are busy with lots of development efforts and I now feel like I wasted your time with my previous support requests that would have been eliminated with a mention in the Beta Release notes.

Both of those apps test fine for me, so while I realize it is affecting multiple people, it's not affecting every single user.

Luke,

Thanks for that information. I guess I misunderstood ebr's response in #4. I thought that meant Direct Play of Live TV was disabled in Beta Release for all in order to test time-shifting.

If it is not an all issue and I am the anomaly, then I will manage it on my side and decide to either not stream Live TV on Beta, or move to Stable release. Thanks for the clarification so that I can make an informed decision.

Thanks for all the hard work. It is appreciated.

Sadly, I'll have to refrain from beta testing until this is resolved. It's effect is too pervasive. Even with transcoded tv, after about 45 minutes it cuts out and I have to wait a few minutes before I can watch again. I enjoy beta testing but this is too much disruption. I will monitor the forum until I see it's resolved

Well that seemed to only work once. :(

I tested Emby Server 3.1.177.0 beta release with Desktop Emby Theater and Android App and they both now are Direct Playing a Live TV stream.

The Emby Theater UWP version has always transcoded a Live TV stream on my Win10 HTPC.
