OpenSourceUser 6
Since it's a feature we pay for and we live in a more privacy-aware world these days, there should definitely be an option to have all files that get synced to the cloud encrypted on-the-fly. There are open source standards we can integrate to improve security without giving up functionality. I'd like to hear what you think.
Luke 37046
It's not a bad idea. Can you suggest any?
ebr 14910
Don't the service providers themselves already encrypt everything?
OpenSourceUser 6
The service providers might be the problem in the first place. Even though there is no support for Amazon Cloud Drive at the moment it's important to note that they actively search for content that could be copyright protected in your cloud. Your Account will get flagged as soon as you upload your legally bought MP3s or your home-made Blu-ray Rips and so on. Even a 22 year old German TV show saved on VHS and later converted to avi was flagged as illegal content ^^ I know that some folks are using EncFS for encryption, but a security audit showed that it's got serious flaws[1]. For the moment I'm only able to link a few open source projects that store data encrypted on various cloud services[2]. PS: AES Encryption is supported in hardware by many modern x86 CPUs so it will perform well while not stressing the CPU to much. I don't know if that is the case on TV-integrated ARM SoCs though. Spaceboy 2493
My synology nas encrypts everything before backing up to one drive. One drive does not encrypt
OpenSourceUser 6
That's right, but as far as I know Synology Video Station cannot stream media from these cloud storages. Since emby is a media center solution we have to look at how we access media files which are encrypted. Keep in mind that we don't talk about off-site backup. But I guess you just wanted to clarify that data needs to be encrypted locally before it gets uploaded to third parties and that's absolutely true.
