Hi.  That is exactly what it is.  Our tags function exactly like their groups and, in fact, are automatically created from groups in the channel list if they exist.

The reason we call them tags is because we are not just a TV front end.  We are an entire media system and we already have tags for other media.  It didn't make any sense to create the exact same thing and call it something else in TV.

What I'm hearing in this discussion is our implementation is fine but we need to improve the speed and ease of switching between tags (groups) in the guide.  I'm also hearing that there isn't a requirement or desire to see channel lists that consist of multiple groups as the interface that was suggested does not allow this (ours does).  Is that accurate for everyone?

first, apologies for not picking up on the fact thats the guide can be filtered by tags. i think my failure to notice is linked to your final summary. While the function of all of those buttons on the top of the guide are all fine, they are so difficult to navigate to i often work around not using them and clearly have given up on noticing them.

In addition to this, the above mentioned tag bleeding from one library to another needs fixing. Lastly, some control of grouping outside of editing the m3u would be helpful.

What is "tag bleeding"?

Tags are editable within Emby.

What about the emby channel groups do you think needs improvement?

I don't use channel groups on emby I like the UI of implayer the guide is more my preference but emby works really good as my backend for hosting movies and tv shows. The emby tv guide is not as fast compared to other front ends that instantly load the channels. That being said emby takes little time to add movies and shows into my library so I'm happy with that. If you add groups and have the guide look more like implayer I definitely would install the emby app and use it again, cheers!

What exactly do you like about the look of that other player?

Only a few things, I can make the guide font really big, if I press left on the firetv remote it goes straight into groups for easy navigation and the channels load instantly. Other than that nothing is better.

Press left from where?

While in full screen as your watching live tv you press left and it brings you into the groups section. Tivimate is the same only you can't add your emby server to it so that's of no use to me.

Ok yes that's something to consider. Thanks.

That would be great, emby is a big deal for me my family is all connected to it and I'm the only one using implayer they will not use anything but emby because it's simple to use for everyone. I'm in no rush for changes idc either way, I made an m3u with a few hundred channels I mapped with your guide data a long time ago for everyone and I use other stuff for myself so all is good. I just bought implayer so regardless of any changes to the emby client app I'm happy with my setup thankfully it allows emby to be used as my backend for my media collection. Just feels like others making these 3rd party apps are cashing in big but if you want something fast you pay for it or end up waiting and waiting.

Okay, interestingly, there was just a request to actually do that in the Android TV app because it currently scopes a tag to the current library.  I didn't fulfill the request because of this type of issue.  Doesn't make sense to me to mix across libraries when browsing directly in a library.

I think I have an issue here. I'm not reall getting the whole discussion...but anyway. On the Android app on my phone, under TV I can see a tag section. Making it easy to browse them

In the Android TV though, it does not show this option. I can only see it in the TV guide itself.

Any reason for this?

Hi. You can group  your channels tab by tags.

Yes we'll be getting the Tags tab to all apps, but in the meantime, they are still available as a grouping option on the channels tab. Thanks.

Hi, the default order is to match the source order.

Not in the tags it's not, I have plenty of options, sort by title, date added, runtime etc but no option to sort by source group order

There is no such sort option. You'd want to set the sort order to default, and then that will have it match what you see in the server channel management screen.

Yes, default is fine for the very first group, but all my groups have their order set using m3u4u. This is why using tags as it stands is not a good way of implementing groups. Most peoples m3u's have an order to them, I have my few most used channels in each group moved to the first the list, Emby undoes that!

@Pog22 I don't think this has anything to do with groups. Do each of the channels have numbers assigned in the m3u, or is it such that some do, some don't?

No numbers don't need to be set. I'm using the same m3u in Tivimate on 4 different Android TV boxes and Solar player on a phone and the channels appear in the groups in the order they are listed in the m3u. It has been the same in any IPTV player I've ever tried on Android

If it can just be set up like kodi or Tivimate...I suggested this during development but was shot down :( I think the problem is for users that use HD Homerun tuners and such, it would totally mess up their setup. it takes a TON of work, but just renumbering the channels got me the results I wanted.

I made my own groups, for usa I put all usa channels in a text and used emby guide data making sure the guide data is set for usa only then numbered the channels. Next i made another one uk saved to text and used emby guide data making sure it was set to only use with uk numbered channels. Then I did NHL, NFL, Canada, Fighting sports etc. Then using tags on fire stick is a breeze to use I like it, took some time to setup but works really good. The channels that are not english I just ignore those with CCCcam there are loads of junk channels. Mostly I just use 110 & 119 dishnetwork and a couple other crazy CCCcam bins that I cloned for the pay per views. People that don't like the tags just need to give it a chance once you get use to it you will like it.
