dimitrik 12
As of some time ago (not sure when exactly) Emby for wmc is no longer displaying cast info for movies and tv shows that do have full metadata saved. It just says 'no cast information' The server metadata view does show the cast info as does the web client and iOS client. Haven't checked Emby theater but I think that doesn't have a cast view anyway. My configuration hasn't changed, metadata paths etc are all the same for several years now. One thing of note is that I download metadata using Media Center Master, but it has specific settings for emby which have always worked in the past. Any ideas? Luke 36887
Hi, Emby Theater does have a cast view. Perhaps you could show screenshots to demonstrate your issue, as well as compare to the web interface? Thanks.
dansblackcat 37
Did you happen to change the default location where cast images are set to? I had mine on a different hard drive to my emby metadata folder for ages, then a little while ago mine stopped working after a server update. I had to go into the emby server configuration and change/update this setting. I don't use the web client much so I'm unsure if it was working or not for me. But changing the setting fixed it for me in WMC. Edited August 11, 2016 by dansblackcat
dimitrik 12
Thanks to both of you. I will check the people location tonight and will also post screenshots...
dimitrik 12
OK, so somethiung odd is happening here. I haver two servers set up on my network, one on my desktop and one on my HTPC. Yesterday I tested Emby Classic but connected it to the desktop server, and I could see cast info just fine. So it must be a server configuration error, but what? The location of my people metadata is: \\NAS\MediaBrowser\ImagesByName\People The NAS is where all my media is stored (I've created a special folder for emby or rather mediabrowser as it used to be called). The rest of the metadata is saved inside the movie or TV folders. So now I have to figure out what has gone wrong, but I can't find any settings for people images location in the server config... Any advice? Hi, Emby Theater does have a cast view. Perhaps you could show screenshots to demonstrate your issue, as well as compare to the web interface? Thanks. Luke, I can,t find this anywhere - are you talking about the old ET? I'm currently testing the new client (2.5.7) and I simply do not see any cast info - I get the initial view at the top, with the play / edit controls, if I scroll underneath it, I get the 'similar to' suggestions and then underneath, I just get an empty space. This is in two separate ET installs and connected to both servers...
dimitrik 12
OK, something really weird is happening here. Both servers are identically configured. But one is not picking up any people metadata. I'm looking at the same film in the metadata editor and one shows the cast, while the other does not. My original message was innacurate since I must have been pointing all the webclients etc to the server that works well, while emby classic was connected to the one that's not. The question is why isn't it? Is there an old MBC xml file somewhere pointing to the wrong location? Or better yet, is there a way to just point the server to the right location? dimitrik 12
OK, so here's what I did - I took the people folder from my server and copied it onto my equivalent emby server directory. All of a sudden I now have cast photos on both emby for WMC and ET if they're connected to my desktop server. Unfortunately, my HTPC server probably requires a deep uninstall - reinstall... dimitrik 12
It would still be useful to know if there's a way to point an emby server to a specific location for people metadata, like the old xml file method. Is something like that still possible?
Luke 36887
You can configure the server metadata path, and people is a part of that.
dimitrik 12
Right, I knew that. But is there a way to only affect people metadata and not the rest? All my other metadata is stored inside individual movie folders.
Luke 36887
Not at this time, no.
dimitrik 12
OK, thanks. I guess I'll have to re-install.
Luke 36887
Why?
dimitrik 12
Well, my metadata is in the individual movie folders except for the people metadata which is in the images by name folder. The server reads the movie metadata just fine (plot, backdrops etc) but fails to pick up the people. My guess is, this is a misconfiguration from the Mediabroweser days (the install folder is still called mediabrowser server). Since I can't figure out a way to fix it, I have to reinstall... Luke 36887
Well a lot has changed in 3 years, it might not be the worst thing.
dimitrik 12
Indeed. I will try to selectively restore my settings after he reinstall with the configuration backup tool and see if I can save some time... thefever 2
I'm gonna piggy-back on this. I noticed in WMC that my cast was missing for some movies and TV shows as well. I've always had my metadata saved in the ImagesByName folder. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was another subfolder of ImagesByNames titled "metadata" with a similar subfolder structure, i.e. "artists, channels, library, livetv, People, views". Did Emby create this folder, and if so, do I need to move the original contents of my ImagesByName folder into the metadata folder?
