the3kgt2 2
I was notified of a new update to MBC so I updated. It uninstalled, downloaded, and attempted to install but failed. Tried multiple times but it still won't work. the3kgt2 2
This ms article explains the error. IT might help not sure http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834484. Thanks, but that only applies to XP. I'm on Windows 7.
Logos302 86
I believe the error code is still the same thing. So the information is still valid, just some of the steps may be slightly different . But this might help a little more http://www.msigeek.com/715/how-to-troubleshoot-the-error-1603-fatal-error-during-installation. It has more things to look at. the3kgt2 2
I did everything listed and it didn't help. Luckily I had a System Restore available from a few days ago. I restored and it's working again. However, if I update MBC to the latest then the same issue happens. It uninstalls and can't install. I will have to stay on the older System Restore and only use the old MBC until the team can fix it.
ebr 14861
I don't think there is anything we can fix here. It is something related to your particular installation. We just have to figure out what it is.
rookslide 6
Was there ever a solution to this issue? I am having the exact same issue. I have tried multiple times to install classic but it gives me the same error. I found in a couple of threads here a few other similiar issues and solutions that I am going to attempt to use but had it not been for my system restore I would have been without either my current version of media browser which is admittedly quite old (version 2.3.2 I think) or the media browser classic. On a side note, I have installed media browser server (on the same computer classic fails to install on) and its running great. I stream to two ipads, a Roku, a windows 8 system and a windows 7 system with almost no issues. I can even use my phones if I want to and had no real issues except occassionally I have to restart the server, not sure why yet but it appears related to client use but not a particular client, any client. I think it may be congestion on the server system which is also the windows 7 system and my main HTPC in the living room handling television recording, commercial removal, blu-ray ripping and compression. So it's a busy little pc. (So long as my better half can watch her recordings and navigate the tv guide she is happy and my htpc hobby can continue on.) Oh but if you can get the roku to see live tv through the server she would be ecstatic, but thats for another forum. I am looking into possibility of left behind .dll files (MediaBrowser.Model.dll or something else) that may be somehow preventing the install but I don't want to accidentally kill my currently working unit by mistake either... I am rarely in forums unless I have a serious issue with something. I'm sure its something unique in my system but nonetheless this the3kgt2 seems to have the exact same issue. Please post the solution if it is ever identified! Thanks!
ebr 14861
Make sure your Windows updates are completely up and clear your click once cache (search out here).
Solution the3kgt2 2 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Solution Share Posted February 27, 2014 I was able to resolve this. I don't remember which exact thing I did because I was looking at so many, but I did find the answer in the mediabrowser.tv community support forum. If I remember correctly (which I don't) it was probably because of MCE Reset Toolbox and the entry points for Media Browser. Here's a collection of what I can find. Try these: Go to Programs & Features in the control panel and check to see if Media Browser is listed in the applications. If shown, uninstall it. Navigate to C:\Program Files\MediaBrowser\MediaBrowser. If the folder still exists after uninstalling previous versions, delete the folder “MediaBrowser” (the first one) Navigate to C:\Windows\assembly. Check to see if there is a file in that folder called “MediaBrowser”. If so, please note the Version number listed. After that, right click and delete the MediaBrowser component. (be careful what you do in this folder). Run Regedit Drill down to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Extensibility\Entry Points” The folder will NOT say Media Browser. It will be a jumbled mess of numbers and letters. click on each folder and MAKE SURE you have the right one. When it says Media Browser in the details pane on the right part of the Regedit window, delete it.
ebr 14861
Thanks for the info 3k. Yet another reason why we are not trying to support direct entry points anymore...
rookslide 6
Wow, that was so fast! I won't even be able to test this until I get home tonight but this makes me want to leave work early! I hope this will work for me. I just tested installing Mediabrowser Classic on this laptop which has had multiple versions of Media Browser in the past and it installed fine. One hang up on migration killed the install but otherwise it appears to be working fine. When I get home I can help it find the server. If it work on this laptop then I should be able to get it up and running on my HTPC at home they are very nearly identical setups. When I check the registry on this laptop I see two entry points for mediabrowser. Description for the first one is "Configure Media Browser" the other is "unleash your media" they both have the same timestamp. I can see the later is from the Media Browser 3 install I just did not sure if the config is from that install or a prior one though. Again this is just me investigating on a system that doesn't have the same issue as my HTPC. I'll let you know if this works for me sometime this weekend can't risk blowing things up tonight, we have the grandkids gotta have cartoons available for "them".;-) I think this is very likely related to the issue though. Many thanks for the help! Especially so promptly. I really hope this is it. Even if it isn't thanks so much for the help and such fast replies! You guys rock! rookslide 6
Ok I have done most of what you shown me in your post 3K but when I try to delete the file in c:\\windows\assembly I get access denied. I've also tried opening a admin command prompt in that folder but even from command prompt can't seem to to remove the file. Something tells me this file has a lot to do with my problem... will try rebooting since removing old Media Browser and then see if the assembly file is gone or not. Update. after rebooting everything is working. file in Assembly folder is gone. Able to install Media Browser Classic! Woo Hoo!!! Now gotta get everything streamlined for my better half before she gets home from work! Thanks again to all!
rookslide 6
Coincidentally this solved another software issue I have had with trying to use recorded tv hd which wouldn't work after installing until now. Not sure where the relationship is but now both are working! Thanks again.
the3kgt2 2
That's probably because RecordedTV HD also installs an entry point in the WMC start menu.
