Local TV Shows and Movies keep buffering

Hi,

I have a slight problem, I have bought myself a NUC6i3SYH and I am going to use it as a HTPC, I try to play a TV Show or Movie but it buffers at the start. It also takes a good couple of seconds to load the TV show and or Movie. I have a i3 laptop that I use for my HTPC in my bedroom and a i5 NUC in the lounge room and both of them work fine. I have included a log file for you to look at and hopefully guide me in the right dirrection.

You need to make sure your new machine has direct access to the files over the network.

If EMC is transcoding them that almost certainly means that it could not.

 

Double check the permissions for the Windows user running EMC and the path substitution setup.

If this is Windows 7 or newer client, it would benefit you to create a home group. This will provide clients with appropriate permissions to have direct access to files and stop buffering.

I understand that, but with my laptop, I dont have any mapped drives and my server has path subsitution already mapped out. I use to have a Celeron Nuc but thought it was that so thats why I bought a i3 Nuc.

Check the detail screen in the web client, at the bottom it will display the path after substitution. that is the path that Emby for WMC will be trying to use, so check that.

Then you need to check to make sure the device running Emby for WMC can access that path. What happens is a very simple thing. The app does a basic test to see if the file is accessible, and if yes, plays it directly, and if not, it streams it through the http server.

Device can access that path, also emby theater plays the same file fine. I'm stumped.

If you bring up an explorer window on that machine, under the same Windows user as is running WMC and paste the following string into the address bar and hit enter - does it bring up the proper location?

I think I have fixed it, it looks like I needed to crate a user account for my "guests" on my synology to get it to play "Dirrect". I logged in under my account, and everything was working.... then a lightbulb moment hit me and I was wondering if I needed a account on my Synology. I now have to go through my other HTPC's and see what accounts I logged on with now.

Thanks for every ones help with this and I still say this is a brilliant product. The only reason I use WMC is because of the live TV, easy to record and change channels etc.
