Completed [BUG] E-Series doesn't support HVEC

So I've tried HEVC on E-Series and I get a render error.  If I try through DLNA it fails with a video codec error.

 

Therefore, I expect we need to disable HEVC for E-series to force transcoding.

I think the only ones that support H265 are H-series devices and SEK2000+ Evokits

That's exactly how we have it already. Only H (or equivilent) has HEVC/H.265 support. Everything else transcodes.

Ok, you're right, it is transcoding

 

Looks like  ffmpeg is falling over.

 

If I run the ffmpeg command from the server log file directly in a cmd window I get this error on the last line

 

[dca @ 00000000006448a0] The encoder 'dca' is experimental but experimental codecs are not enabled, add '-strict -2' if you want to use it.

 

if I add -strict -2 before the 'dca' options, then I get this error before it fails

 

[dca @ 000000000253c520] Specified channel layout '5.1' is not supported

 

Maybe when ffmpeg gets another upgrade.

So I've just finished building a new server and decided to do a fresh install of Emby beta, new databases, etc.  

 

It was interesting to note that the installer now prompts you to manually download and install ffmpeg (not sure how long ago this changed)

 

I downloaded the 64-bit static build from the recommended source (by the installer) and my HEVC Transcoding problems are solved.
