How to play second disc for multi-part movies?

I have read the WIKI on how to structure multi-part movies, here is my layout:

  • \MKVs (Blu-ray)
    • \The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)-disc1.mkv
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)-disc2.mkv
    • \The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003)
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003)-disc1.mkv
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003)-disc2.mkv
    • \The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002)
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002)-disc1.mkv
      • The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002)-disc2.mkv

The web client can see the second disc, it is listed under "Additional Parts" but I don't see a way to start the second disc under MBC or MBT. I assume the play button should expand to ask me which disc to start but it doesn't and the chapters from the second disc aren't shown in any interface (web, MBC or MBT) so I can't access it that way.

I just use mkvmerge, takes a couple mins to join a movie. just pick part one, append part 2, click remux, done

Does mkvmerge work well? I have read elsewhere that the audio gets out of sync. Have exactly the same issue with the LOTR extended editions

I used it on my Lotr bluray extended editions, audio was fine. I haven't seen any sync issues with any other movies eithet

It does make a new file by default, so you would still have the original 2 disc files, just give it a try and see if it works for you

Has the multi-disc playback selection been incorporated yet?

The library wiki says "Please note that at this time, each part will have to be played individually. Displayed metadata will be based on information from the first part, and the additional parts will be made playable through a menu."

That playback menu is important for those of us doing full ISO disc rips for multi-disc releases.

I don't believe it has. I've used MKVMerge to combine all of my movies with multiple parts.
