I have emby connected to my NAS which works flawlessly in delivering direct play on my BRAVIA android TV app however I use a Roku streaming stick in my bedroom and for some reason either it triggers transcoding or there's an issue with connection because at best I can play a few seconds of a video before the streaming begins to lag and reload.  I tried the techniques in the roku wiki but still having the same problem.  Does anyone else have the same experience or a solution??

Could be several reasons but without more information it is hard to say.  Can you post the transcode log.  What is the max bitrate set to in the Roku App, and the bitrate of the media you are trying to play?

Check the transcode logs, is it running without issue?  What's cpu utilization like?  What kind of hardware?

What kind of wireless are you running?

One of the things I have seen is that Roku IMHO seems to not be happy the minute it's bitrate get's bumped up a big high, but in my usage the Roku's are also all wireless.  I would say make sure you are running your router at N-Only.  If any of the Roku's support AC switch over to AC that makes a huge difference from a wireless perspective.

You could also use the blueneon roku app. It allows "force directstream". This will force the roku to direcly play the video. The roku may not like the video and may refuse it. It may have no audio because the roku doesnt like that audio codec. It might also play perfectly fine with no problems. The automatic detection isnt perfect. It is making a best educated guess. Even the best guess can sometimes be wrong. This is where you can manually intervene.
