Hi guys. I'm Jamin. Emby is the reason my machine exists, love this stuff. I cant sing the praises of this product enough. Just figured I had to throw that in here as its my first post after a good 6 months loving this forum as a resource and the product for being so badass. My machine is named badass only because its how i describe emby. Awesome work!  Now that I got my e-hug out of the way onto why I'm here.  It has been a ride for this box I started with windows 10 had everything working but windows update sucks and would mess with emby when an update was pending.. So I said "the hell with you windows.. you don"t get to mess with Emby" and completely disowned the product on all my machines as a primary OS. Dove right into linux, the OS I have been avoiding my entire IT career just because Emby deserved better.  Had it up and running on Ubuntu 16.04 everyone could connect but Emby would still crash. Determined to have an uncrashable emby on a stable OS i went to Mint 17.04. I got everything setup, sonarr, couch potato, all working together in perfect harmony. I re invite my friends and family and i start getting texts saying it crashed. I'm like screw you it crashed I'm using it right now.. Your problem not mine.. Then I tried getting on with connect.. Oops my bad complaining friends and family it is me... So for days now I have been tripple checking my ports, rebooting the router, the system, kicked mooching neighbors off the wifi.. Nada. My ports are as open as the secrets on Hillary's server.. I can get on through my public IP.. Connect refuses to work. I'm not sure what i need to provide you guys with to get some help but I'm seriously stumped. Good news is emby hasn't crashed once since installing a week ago, so I at least got that mix right.. If there is something I need to show you just give me a clue where to get it and I'm on it. Thank you in advance. PLEASE HELP ME Thanks again.. In the name of the father, the son, and emby... amen.

PS.. I tried the removing connect and re-inviting myself and anything else potentially relative that i found on here. it stumps t it can see the new server name from connect but wont just do what it's meant to do.. Also called in my former mentor whos a network engineer ninja and even he is stumped and couldn't find a reason to make me feel stupid this time.

Hi, welcome. As a test, have you tried connecting without Emby Connect, just to see if that works? We first need to determine if there's actually an Emby Connect issue, or if it's just a case of the traffic not being able to get through. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Luke, yes I have been able to connect from the outside via my IP and port.

Just as a followup. Connect works if I manually enter the server address and it then picks up the local server portion of my credentials. If I dont.. it will say unable to connect when clicking on server from connect home screen. I have tried removing and reinviting myself. I have also tried with other users. This all worked on previous installs on the other operating system builds. Very stumped.

What can I provide to show you guys what is going on and figure out where the hiccup is happening?

Alright.. Sorry to flood with my own notes but maybe this will help someone in the future. I wish I knew which one thing fixed the issue but i tried a couple at once. After doing the stuff i mentioned above I created an admin account with a password and made it visible (only account of several that i made visible), i also added a password to my local account that is tied to my emby account and boom everything worked. I tried logging into other accounts that were having the same issue and they worked too.

Theories are: one of the two 'flipped the on switch with connect'

1. Despite my original admin account being invisible it needed a password to work correctly with connect account it was associated with? Thus not granting any other users access until the password was present?

2. At least one account needs to be visible on the main server page at least when initially getting connect up and running?

I feel like i could undo everything i just did and it would all still work because somehow that initial connect connection finally successfully happened.  If you guys have any insight as to which thing finally made it all work it will ease my mind and probably help some other over complicated admin in the future.

Well i uninstalled the android app for shits and giggles to see what would happen undoing everything i did in the app; Back to connect seeing the server but unable to connect. If i manually add the server via ddns, the sign in screen comes up, if i then back all the way out and sign in with connect again clicking my server works.. So my other 2 theories are out the window. Any clues based on all my notes here?

Ok.. Last note.. I rebooted server and applied last nights update. Uninstalled android app. Reinstalled typed in connect credentials and clicked on server. Was then asked to accept ssl cert which was totally new and that got me right in, I guess case closed. Would still like to hear any dev thoughts / input if you have any? Thanks.

Hi, check the front page of the emby server dashboard. It lists your external address. Does this address look correct? That is the address that your server reports to Emby Connect. If that address isn't correct, then you might have an issue.
