Went on vacation for a week, came back, and I can't get either of my Roku's to connect to Emby.  To be fair, I can't connect from other devices either...but I can connect on PC Emby server is installed on, as well as Emby connect website...and adding Roku's with pin worked too.  I've tried re-installing Roku apps, removing and re-adding server, port exception in Windows firewall, turning off Windows firewall, port forwarding on router.  Only thing I can think that changed was swapping my router/gateway with AT&T just before I left...can't remember if Emby worked after that or not.

Thoughts/ideas?  It worked fine when I first installed...super frustrating.

Make sure your server didnt change to "public" network settings. This might have happened if the pc was on during your change to at&t. You should just need to set your network type on the server as a "home" connection and things just magically work again.

Choose the "networking and sharing center" from the control panel. From here you can see if it is correctly set as a home connection.

Thanks for the quick response.  Man...I was super hopeful, as my network was set to Public.  I flipped it to Private and added it to a homegroup + set to share with all devices...still can't connect.  I've tried all kinds of other stuff.  This was so easy to set up and get working...really bummed I'm having such a hard time troubleshooting.

Any other ideas?

Check all your firewall rules.  Something may have added a specific block or the allowance may have been removed.

Can you see the roku on your server, in the "network" section? It should be shown under other devices.

If the roku is showing, the problem is windows firewall. You need to set an exemption through it for emby. If you run malware/virus watchdog programs these may need to be "trained" to allow emby.

If the roku isnt showing, the router isnt set up correctly to allow upnp. You need to enable upnp, then reboot the roku, after the roku boots up it should be showing up on your server as a connected network device.

Hi, take a look at our Connection Troubleshooter. Try going through the steps listed there. Let us know if all of the tests complete successfully or if you get stuck somewhere. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses guys.

So weird...was in middle of typing up e-mail below in defeated frustration when I noticed I was connected to internal Emby IP via my browser (non-server PC) all of the sudden (it had originally failed to connect).  Checked Roku and it's working too.  Only thing that happened was Windows Defender Virus Scan running on server (not even completed)...and history said it didn't find anything.

I won't question success, but if you have any ideas why it suddenly might have started working, I'm curious.

______________

  • Verified my firewall is allowing ports 8096 and 8920 (inbound rule)...I run standard Windows Firewall
  • Verified no explicit "Block" rule is set up relating to Emby, MediaServer, or the ports
  • I cannot get to internal IP from another computer (http://192.168.1.70:8096/)...at first...but then it started working!
  • Currently running virus scan (I run Windows Defender)...maybe this fixed something, even though it says it didn't?
  • I verified upnp is enabled for all network types
  • I verified I can see the Roku from the Network section in Windows Explorer (although I can't do anything with it)
