Hello - firstly great work on MB3 guys, lovely stuff and I will be donating tomorrow (it's late and I need some sleep).

I've been grapping all night with a weird issue.  Here it is...

In my previous MB2 setup this worked perfectly.  I like this setup and would like it to work with MB3.

I run a nightly scheduler to grab Movie Trailers off Apple and Yahoo and place them in a directory called "N:\My Movie Trailers".  Each trailer file (.MP4) has it's own directory and I can play these .MP4s in each directory perfectly outside of MB3.  I setup a media location in MB3 called "My Trailers" which points to "N:\My Movie Trailers" and when I select My Trailers, sure enough I see a coverflow view of the trailers with their respective thumbnail folder art.

The issue is when I select a trailer to watch, I get a MB3 screen with no control options (to play the video).  All I see is a blank screen with the user icon and configuration icon on the top of the screen.  That's it.  Nothing else.  When I hit "back" on my remote I go back to the coverview view of the trailers.

As i said, this setup worked PERFECTLY in MB2 and this i exactly how my movies are structures except the trailer grabber uses a format of [date-movie trailer name] for the directories.

Again, this worked perfectly in MB2.

So I thought maybe it was the "media type" that was the issue so I went into the configurator, deleted "MY Trailers" and recreated it with different media types (Movies / Trailers / Mixed Media) and still the same results.  I even tried this with different themes (subdued and also default - both the same result). No way to play the video as no controls pop up to "play".  Just a blank screen.

I really like this setup as my "trailer grabber" drops these trailers in a directory so I can view up and comming movies when I'm in the mood for some previews.

Can anyone please help me here? Is there some difference between MB2 and MB3 that I'm not grasping?

Thanks in advance for your help.  Rob

Guys I think I figured out my problem.

I noticed that my trailer files in my directory all ended with "-trailer" and I renamed it (removed the -trailer) and it sprung into life.

This must be some new clever stuff in MB3 that recognizes a file with "-trailer" on the end and of course there is no MOVIE file in these directories as they are previews of up and coming movies.

So looks like I will need to find a way to save these files without the "-trailer" on the end.

If anyone has any thoughts I'm all ears :-)

Many thanks...

If you like to just watch trailers of upcoming movies, why not just use the trailers plugin that does this all for you and will allow you to stream any upcoming movie trailers?

Well unfortunately the trailers pluggin would only accomplish part of what he was doing.  It currently doesn't download the files.  So if he has a limited bandwidth issues streaming would not work properly.

Yes agreed. I did quickly look at the trailers plug in and it is cool, but didnt achieve what I'm looking for as I wanted a copy of the trailer files so I can transfer it to the movie folder if I like the movie.

I use a tool called "HD-Trailers Download" which is scripted to run at 3am each morning.  I looked in the configuration file and noted that there was an option to turn on/off a feature that put a prefix of "-trialer" on the end of the file.  I turned this off and presto, MB3 sees the file as I wanted and I can now view these in my "Coming Soon" media location.

Works as I want it now so thanks...Rob.

Because I want to keep the trailers on file locally (not steam them).  thanks for the post :-)
