Hello,

I'm a new user of Emby, i really love it !! it's so easy and powerfull i didn't know why i don't heard about it before.

Here is my setup of Emby to explain what i excpected to do with it :

Actually i use substitution path for local Kodi and i would know if it's possible to have two path substitution system ? One for local device and one for remote device. I got strong internet connexion and didn't need transcoding to play files on my remote Kodi so it would be really interessant  if it's possible to dissociate local acces to files from remoted one.

To resume :

Local Kodi -> NFS access to NAS with substitution path

Remote Kodi -> FTP access to NAS with substitution path

Is this possible ? Need a bunch of modifications ?

Again thanks for your great works !!

PS : Sorry for my poor english, i 'm French i tried to write something understandable.

Remote access doesn't necessarily mean transcoding content. In Kodi, unless you decrease the streaming quality bitrate to a low value, should be direct streaming your content meaning Emby streams your content to Kodi via http without change to the original file.

Path substitution is only looked at when direct playing your content, meaning accessing your content in Kodi via local/network paths.

It's exactly what i want to do. Give a direct access of my files with both local and network Kodi by using NFS and FTP. In this case Emby doesn't need to send http stream to my remote Kodi.

For now we can only do it  for either one.

What we do right now is already functionally equivalent.

Kodi can play a file via FTP...?

Okay, then it must be just downloading it on the fly.

Like I said, this should be functionally equivalent to what we are doing via http.

Yes ! The only difference in the case of access via FTP, files are directly accessible from the NAS. Which is not the case for http stream where Emby send files.

In the cases of an Rpi or light server this will be great to give direct access to the files stored in the NAS locally and also from the web. In a resource savings in mind this feature would be interesting.

I really doubt it makes much of a difference in terms of resource saving.

In fact for streaming video http vs FTP I believe the opposite is probably true
