Enable HEVC hardware decoding in LAV filters

Hi guys,

Is it possible to enable HEVC hardware acceleration with the Emby LAV filters? I have a GTX 960, which decodes x265 content and when playing HEVC files outside of Emby, the HEVC checkbox in LAV filters is enabled. However, when playing the same file through Emby Theater, the HEVC checkbox is not enabled. Is it possible to enable it? I'm having issues with smooth playback even at lower bitrates.

Thanks!

Hi guys. Bumping this up. Is it possible to set LAV so that HEVC is properly decoded by hardware for GTX 950/960 owners? I know it's not a UI option, but can we change the config file? If so, where is it located? Thanks

There's nothing you can change right now. We will investigate it for a future release. Thanks.

I know it's been mentioned in other threads too...at some point I'd like to be able to customize some of the advanced options in the LAV filters at some point - even if that's editing an XML or something.  It'd be cool if it could be done through LAV's control GUI and have ET catch any settings changes though.

Thanks Luke. I appreciate the response and look forward to the future. =)

What playback problems are you having?

At least 90% of my library is HEVC and I've never had any problems with Emby.

My HTPC doesn't even have a video card, just an APU.

Hi Joshua. Lower bitrate HEVC files play fine (say 1200 Kbps or lower) but anything higher or with aggressive MadVR settings will chock my CPU. The GTX 860 offers hardware decoding for HEVC playback so I can get much smoother playback using MPC-HT than I can with the internal Emby player (which I would otherwise prefer).

Right now I just switch back and forth between internal player for non-HEVC content and external player for HEVC. Not ideal, but it will work until Emby allows for hardware decoding on x265 files.
