Hi James,

  1) Are you currently running Emby on Synology? If yes, which Synology platform are you using?

      DS415+ running latest DSM 6

DSM 6 under VMware player 12 as a virtual guest (thanks to XPENOLOGY Forums). The VM guest can be re-created easily or run as multiple guests on a X86-64 Windows machine (very stable).

  2) Would you be willing to test development packages? (these will install in parallel and not touch or interfer with the existing installation)

        YES.

Hi James,

Yes it works and nice job as I'm impressed..!! installed EMBY on a fresh copy of DSM 6 under VMware Player 12 on a Windoes 8 Intel I7 machine.

Answer is yes to all the questions your looking for.

I'll try my DS415+ tomorrow when I have time. Thanks for your efforts.

Mike

Hi again,

updated my previous install to Version 3.0.6000.0 and all still works with 51 movies I copied over. Still followed the old upgrade method. I do like what you have done.

Hey guys I am new to emby and would like to get a better understanding on how to install this on my current system. I am running on a DS212 on DSM 6. I am not able to find the appropriate mediainfo file in packages center. I am also not able to determine the correct ffmpeg and Emby file based on my CPU/architecture which is 88f6282(armv5) . Does the appropriate file exist for my nas or do I need to downgrade my DSM in order for it to work. Can anyone help me out?

I'm also interested in testing. (Not using Emby atm)

I used the new installation procedure.  It went smoothly and successfully.  However, the Emby Server dashboard is telling me that an update is available, that I should shutdown the server and manually install the update.  On the other hand, the Synology package center says that Emby Server is up to date.  Do I just have to wait until the package center becomes aware of the new version (3.0.6020.0) or should I be doing something else?  Thanks for your help with this - I am fairly new to Synology administration.

Hello @@PinchOfSalt

That is an area that needs a little bit of cleaning up, the package will become available via Package Center - there is nothing to be done manually or via the server dashboard.

There are some further notes on updates on the Wiki here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Notes-on-Package-Updates

Thanks, solabc16.  I wondered if it might be a loose end.  The updated package did eventually appear in the Package Center.  It is so good to be able to install Emby on my Synology box just like any other application!

Hello All

As you have probably noticed, the initial work on the Intel package is complete and is now out in the wild.

We've started work on support for the Marvell processors and are now ready to start testing.

The first alpha, which is ready now, will target the Kirkwood and Armada 300 series processors; others will follow soon after.

If you don't know what type of processor your NAS has, check this Wiki page here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Summary-of-Models-by-Processor

So, if you'd like to help us with testing, drop us a note here with your Synology model and we'll get in touch.

NOTE: As per the first post on this thread, the Emby package will install in parallel with your existing setup and not touch or interfer with it in any way.

Best

- James

Hi guys,

Initial testing for this has completed, and you can now install the Synology package by following the instructions on our website:

http://emby.media/nas-server.html

Thanks.

HI Luke,

I have installed the package source (https://synology.emby.media/) as per normal, however the Emby package is not appearing in my Package Center (either under the Community tab nor any other tab).

I have deleted and re-added the package several times, closed and reopened Package Center, refreshed package center numerous times and even pushed Trust Level to 'any publisher' over the last few hours............but still no luck getting the Emby package to appear in my Package Center.

The only thing I haven't done yet is restart the NAS system - does it require a full NAS restart to appear in package center? (if so i'll restart later in the 'quieter' hours).

I am running a DS1813+ on DSM 5.2-5644... this should be good for EMBY according to your requirement specs? It is an Intel and I don't see a restriction on DSM requirement??.

Am I missing anything here?

Thanks

Hello @@gandja

The DSM target for this package is DSM6, as there are underlying functional/performance improvements that are beneficial and for Synology box owners there isn't really any reason not to upgrade.

Is there a reason why you're running DSM 5.2?

Best

DSM 6, to put it politely, is a cluster***k - just review some of the comments on the synology forum.

I have no plans to install DSM 6 until it gets a bit less 'feedback' on the synology forums.

Such a shame, I been running emby on an old Windows server, but moving to the NAS was the last piece of my media puzzle................oh well.

No avenue for DSM 5 implementation??

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly in any case.

Hello @@gandja

Can you be more specific with the issues you believe you will run into in your environment?

Whilst all platforms have their issues, DSM6 at this point is widely and successfully deployed in both consumer and commercial environments.

The DS1813+ was an active part of our test programme. If there was a significant demand for DSM5 support, it's something we might consider.

Hi James,

There are a whole series of issues that have been brought up on the synology forums with various problems/errors.

The main concern for me is I have yet to have been 'assured' that some community packages (sickbeard, couchpotato) remain operational (fully or partly) not to mention reports of 'bricks' for multiple users.

Whilst ordinarily I'm very open to new things I have previously been burnt on a DSM upgrade (4 > 5) where I lost 20TB of files, now that my media library is 30+TB I just get a bit twitchy with DSM upgrades.

I have no doubt I will eventually upgrade to DSM 6, just want to wait until some of the kinks are ironed out, which appears to be typically in the 9-12 month period post release - not too far away now - and who knows, now with an official Emby package I might get some dutch courage and bite the bullet earlier.

I'm sure, and I know, I'm not alone in hanging on to DSM 5 (and, believe it or not, there are even still some on DSM 4) so I'm sure there would be demand for Emby compatibility to DSM 5, but whether that would bear enough weight to warrant the work on your end, I wouldn't know.

Cheers

Hi James

I believe my NAS the DS214se has the following processor:

Armada 370

    x14 : DS214se

I know I have had problems but would gladly test if you want me to.

Thanks

Nic
