I did try emby on my synology ds 1512+ a while back but was never able to move completely off my production server as the there was too much transcoding happening at the time. Since there is more support for direct play now i would like to try emby again on my synology. Below is the output of the commands requested. Appologies if this has been answered but what are the plans for releases in terms of beta. I try to stay up to the latest beta on my current server and would like to maintain that on the synology if possible, though i completely understand if only stable releases are supported at this time.

Afternoon @@rabbit1543

Thanks for the details, I've added you to the test group - take a read through that thread to get started, and of course feel free to raise any questions there.

The recent reduction in transcoding has certainly been a positive step in opening up the appeal of Emby on Synology.

There's a note in the package testing thread regarding beta versions, the short answer is yes - this capability will be added for testers (or adventurous users). Mono builds are not always available for all non-stable releases, but where they are available, they will be made available.

Thanks @@TroyBennett, I'm reasonably hopeful that for most testing GUI access will be sufficient.

I'm interested by your comment about it 'being slow', as I wouldn't expect Emby to need the raw speed of a SSD drive to perform adequately.

What is your disk configuration? Was there a specific activity that you found to be slow?

- James

Sorry for the delay in responding to this,

Yeah, when i went to movies it would take a few minutes for the images to load.  I'm not sure if it was because i didnt have an ssd drive installed for cache or if it was becuase i was really testing stuff that was in alpha, or possibly not even meant for my particular raid system (CPU, etc). eventually the stuff did load and the media played fine.  But waiting for it was too much for me....  But if i test it down the road I would definately add an ssd drive for stuff like metadata and cache.

If it can be run completely autonomous and besides the "old" Emby for Synology Package(s) (without losing settings, databases etc.) I'd like to participate, too.

Evening

The Synology platform is fantastic for consolidating a lot of the technology in your home, so being able to have Emby running on it as well is just another well deserved tick in the box.

Those of you already sailing this ship, when it comes to Emby, are either loving the hands on and somewhat technical commitment it currently requires or are a little frustrated and pulling your hair out.

Emby itself is of course a brilliant media platform - or we wouldn't be here, so we need to lower the entry bar and make installing and updating a simple point and click experience via the DSM UI.

Development is already underway as well as looking at the best approach for packaging and handling depdencies; I'll post more as we go along.

However, for now you can really help by answering the following two questions:-

    1) Are you currently running Emby on Synology? If yes, which Synology platform are you using?

    2) Would you be willing to test development packages? (these will install in parallel and not touch or interfer with the existing installation)

Best

- James

2) Yes, please !
