Philips TV not appearing in the device list and no DLNA access

Got a new philips 65pus8601.

The sad thing is that it does not appear int the device list of the emby server config pages and i can't browse the content of emby via the TV (even if emby appears in the list of DLNA server on the tv)

BTW there is also no philips in the DLNA profil list of the emby server - dont know if this a problem as i assume emby is choosing the default problem in there is no special one.

DLNA is working well with this TV for example with serviio.

Does anyone have the same issue?

Maybe emby has an issue because the Philips TV is a "DLNA Server" and in parallel a "DLNA renderer".

The device spy from the intel upnp sdk says:

As mentioned i can't browse emby as DLNA server, but i can see it in the list of DLNA servers on the tv.

The log on emby's side when trying to browse it from the tv is:

The issue remains but i was able to deactivate the DLNA server inside the TV.

Had no impact.

I also tried the emby Android TV app, but it is ofen crashing the TV. Absolutely no option.

I would love to get DLNA render on the TV running like with other servers.

Hope Luke can help.

Update:

Since i used the Android TV emby app the new TV finally appreaed in the device list of the emby server.

Even twice, but none of the entries is a DLNA client profile :-(

It's definitely a common issue. My DLNA play to devices that were once work now hardly ever show up in Emby. They do show up in other media servers though, so I know it's not a network issue.

Yes, after some testing yesterday night, it is definitly an emby issue.

It is working wiith several other DLNA server and DLNA controller apps or software.

I would like to know what Luke has to say, because i hope it is "really just an issue" with emby and not by design to force people spending money on emby premiere by using the android app (which is a stability catastroph).

I just spend money on the emby ios emby app to play my stuff via "dlna play to". But the "play to" function is only using the (i guess - see picture above) chromecast connect, which is also not working stable -> TV was hanging after some testing with this functionnallity).

I will get back with more detailed logs with the hope that Luke will read it and hopefully reply.

Here the promissed logs based on:

1.) Fresh start of emby

2.) Turn on the Philips TV

3.) Open the TV network source menu to show the list dlna servers

4.) Find emby in the list and try to browse the content emby is serving .... -> which is not possible (waiting symbol shows forever - see photo)

Unfortunately without having a Philips on hand for testing, I'm not sure what the issue is. I do know that it works from the test devices that I do have.

Tell what you need and i do it.

The intel upnp tools might be helpful. Just tell me what you need

Come on Luke. I am sure the other coders of other dlna server applications don't necessarily own Philips TV's but they made it running.

You can make, I know it. ;-)

Right now I'm not sure. I know that it works fine from samsung. What you could do is use wireshark to compare xml responses between emby server and another media server that is working.

I know it is working with Samsung ;-) I have two of them.

The bad is i never used wireshark before. Of course i will try... can you give me a short hint what to do?

BTW can i do the same with the "Device Sniffer" from the upnp intel tool set?

I am little lost, too much stuff to look for. To be honest i don't know btw exactyl what to look for.

One new finding is that the DLNA sharing also works well and easy with the standard AV Server from intel upnp sdk:

572facb03cfcb_2.jpg

When starting a emby server the device spy looks like this:

572facf0d9aa6_emby1.jpg

.... and i can't browse the content as already explained ...

With the intel av server it looks like this:

572fad622fe0d_intel1.jpg

@Luke:

May it be that emby server stops adding the Philips TV as DLNA devvice into the clients list because it already added the TV as "chromecast" device?

Samsung has its own TV OS without a possible connection typ like chromecast and maybe emby uses there the best possible client identification which is in this case DLNA.

If this assumtion goes in the right direction it could be obvious that the Philips TV is simply not identified as DLNA client and therefore emby doesn't link a valid DLNA client profile.... and the result is maybe a "undefined state"

For testing porposes i deleted the my Philips TV with the type "chormecast" device from the device list. (see posting #5)

I tought this device should appear again in the list as soon as emby discovers it again, but this is not the case. I even change the ip of the TV but it is not coming back.

How can i force emby to discover the chromecast device again?

UPDATE:

It seems to come back as soon as i use the Emby App on iOS.

Anyhow, the chromecast connection from the emby iOS app is easily reproducible crashing the chromecast receiver software on the TV and cause the shole TV to hang by just some timeskipping in any direction

Due to that, how can we continue to get it running with DLNA?

As far as the TV not appearing in the device list, there is a fix for that on the beta branch, in 3.0.5963.

Thanks for this, but i don't give up to get the DLNA stuff to run.

Attached you will find a WIRESHARK recoring of the communication of the default Intel Media Server from the "Developers Toolkit for UPNP Technology" running on my PC and the Philips TV 65PUS8601:

IP of the media server on my PC: 192.168.42.122

IP of the Philips TV: 192.168.42.114

What i did:

  1. Started Wireshark and filtered all activities to the IP of the TV
  2. Started the TV and navigated to the TV network sources overview
  3. Started the recording in Wireshark
  4. Started the Intel Media Server Software on my PC with some videofile to share
  5. Found the Intel media server on the list of the TV network sources overview
  6. Navigated with the TV into the share files of the Intel Media Server
  7. Stop Wireshark recording and save the content in the Wireshark format "pcapng"

Luke, can you check if the Wireshark file is helping you?

Thanks in advance

New test now with emby on my PC talking with the Philips TV:

IP of the emby on my PC: 192.168.42.122

IP of the Philips TV: 192.168.42.114

Test 1) with Emby having NO files in the media library

What i did:

  1. Started Wireshark and filtered all activities to the IP of the TV
  2. Started Emby with an EMPTY media library
  3. Started the TV and navigated to the TV network sources overview
  4. Started the recording in Wireshark
  5. Navigated to emby on the list of the TV network sources overview
  6. TV says that there are no file shared by emby (obviously)
  7. Stop Wireshark recording and save the content in the Wireshark format "pcapng" -> see attched Wireshark file

Test 2) with Emby having files in the media library

What i did:

  1. Started Wireshark and filtered all activities to the IP of the TV
  2. Started Emby with movie files in the media library
  3. Started the TV and navigated to the TV network sources overview
  4. Started the recording in Wireshark
  5. Navigated to emby on the list of the TV network sources overview
  6. TV shows the wait cursor ... never ending
  7. Stop Wireshark recording and save the content in the Wireshark format "pcapng" -> see attched Wireshark file

@Luke: does this bing some light to you?

I just tried the dev build and it did not help my scenario with a Sharp TV long forgotten by Emby (though it's a rather new DLNA TV that has fine Play To with Windows or other DLNA controllers).

Sharp TV's not showing in Emby:

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/11522-sharp-aquos-smart-tv-dlna-not-showing-in-mb3

LG TV's (not mine, but similar when I searched for this thread):

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/34194-lg-tv-not-showing-in-devices

Just an FYI that there is some reason some breed of DLNA TV's are not showing...

i don't give up to get it running with Philips.

Any more data needed?

P.S.: No improvement with 3.0.5973-beta

I don't want to give up ;-)

Whatever data of input needed to get Phlips running just tell me.

Would be nice to get a feedback on this, especially because of the Wiresharke files i provided, which Luke asked for.
