Bug Report: Metadata Sort name no longer works for Series Seasons

I'm currently running Emby Server Version 3.0.5913 and Emby for WMC Version 3.0.302.0.

 

Metadata Manager "Sort name:" no longer works in the WMC Addon.

 

Entering text in the Media Manager "Sort name:" field does not change TV Show season sort order in Emby for WMC.

Nothing has changed on the EMC side here but I'm not sure it was ever intended for you to be able to re-arrange seasons within a series...

However, it appears the "Sort name:" field has stopped working in general, regardless of the sort type or intention.

It simply does not override the default sort order.

You'll need to provide specific details.  What, exactly, isn't working?

 

Realize that top level item order is not governed by the "Sort Name" anymore - it is controlled by the View order settings at the server.

I was just about to get into a detailed reply with screen shots and all the gory detail when I noticed there was a new version of Emby Server available (Version 3.0.5930.0).

I updated to Emby Server 3.0.5930.0, lo and behold, the TV show seasons sorted by "Sort name" entries (descending order) as it did before.

So whatever broke in the previous couple of versions of Emby is now un-broke in Version 3.0.5930.0.

 

What I have been doing with TV shows and some Movie series is to control their display in Emby WMC addon.

In the Metadata Manager. my TV shows appear like this:

▼MetaFolders

       ▼TV Shows

             ▼Game of Thrones

                     ▶Season 5

                     ▶Season 4

                     ▶Season 3

                     ▶Season 2

                     ▶Season 1

 

 

I achieve this by placing a descending number in the "Sort name" entry for each new season.

For example:

Name: Season 1

Sort name: 23-Season 1

Name: Season 2

Sort name: 22-Season 2

Name: Season 3

Sort name: 21-Season 3

Name: Season 4

Sort name: 20-Season 4

Name: Season 5

Sort name: 19-Season 5

 

The Metadata Manager displays the season list as shown above and the Emby WMC addon also displays in descending order when sort is set to Name.

 

For whatever reason this all fell apart in the past couple of Emby Server versions.

Entries in the "Sort name:" field had no effect at all.

Now all is good with version 3.0.5930.0.
