I get DD 5.1 videos transcoding when the audio option is set to COMPATIBLE on my NP connected to just a TV.

When it's set to DIRECT, there is no audio during playback.

With Tiamat I always get Direct Play.

Is that something you can look at please Eric?

Might help others out as well.

I think he may mean that there's no Direct Play when connected to a TV, only transcoded playback, as per my first post?

When using Tiamat, I get Direct Play on my Nexus Player, not transcoded play.

It isn't about being connected to a TV.  It is about being connected to a system that cannot understand any of the direct audio formats so we are forced to transcode to stereo.  That should be a very limited scenario.

 

And the "transcoding" will be very light - only audio is being converted.

Are you sure you have to have your audio set to Compatible mode?  What is the outboard equipment you are hooked up to?

with direct audio output set i get no sound but get video, but on compatible i get transcoding happening.

 

same video file plays fine in kodi.

Okay, since your TV cannot handle the direct audio stream (you might want to check some settings to be sure there isn't something you can turn on to support DD) we must transcode the audio to something it can handle.  Right now, that has to happen on the server but should be very light duty and not much impact on the server at all.

 

There are some updates in the pipeline for the player we are using now (from Google) that will hopefully allow us to do this conversion on the client in the future - but they aren't there yet.

 

Are you having playback problems?
