Auto Organise Not deleting Folders or files contained after moving

Hello @@softworkz,

After Auto Organise had done its magic and moved the files to my relevant season folder (nice work thank you), the "Delete Folder" or "Delete File extensions" does not appear to be working. My folders remain, and they also have files inside, ie .txt etc.

Additionally, is it possible to delete the folder that the video file was in once the move has taken place, regardless of what is remaining in there? Currently I have .nfo;.txt;.jpg;.srt;.cc;.png to cover a range of files (could I use *.*)  to delete prior to folder deletion as I assumed the folder would not get deleted if files remain in side that folder?

Thanking you in advance.

Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark,

"*.*" won't work as an extension. This would be kind of too dangerous and unpredictable.

The first thing to check is the contents of the folders that don't get deleted. Only empty folders will be deleted.

Your screenshot shows a list of folders that don't get deleted, but we need to examine what's contained in those folders.

If they appear to be empty, please be sure that you activated "Show hidden files, folders...".

A common cause can also be the (hidden) thumbnail storage file "Thumbs.db" that may get generated if your system is configured to do so.

Hello @@softworkz,

I think that is my issue. Even though I have asked for certain files to be deleted, for example .nfo;.txt;.jpg;.srt;.cc;.png, a single txt file remains in all folders which makes sense as to why the folders are not getting deleted. I have also checked for those pesky .db files and they are not there after enabling show hidden files and known file extensions.

So yeah, all I can tell is that even though I have set the auto organise for .txt files to be deleted to empty the folder, it does not appear to be doing that.

Thank you once again.

Unless your explorer is configured to hide file extensions, this file seems to end with .cc, so you should add .cc to your "delete leftover extensions".

He does have that, look at the last image.

My auto delete has been broken ever since it got changed months ago. Before the change it worked wonderfully but Luke said it was changed and now its broken. I just go in and clean it up every month or so, its a hassle but its better than moving every file manually.

It has never been the intention to delete random folders under your watch folder if emby server has not actually organized anything in those folders. Auto-organize was never intended to be a maid that cleans up random directories, it's just that it was doing that for a little while and you got used to it, but that's not really the purpose of the feature.

Not necessarily. He could also have .cc files configured as "Text Files".

Cant that be a option though? It seemed to work fine, what was wrong with how it handled empties before?

It really does not work for many of my directories though, there are many folders that actually are empty that had items moved from it and the folder remains. But like I said i just clean it manually now.

I can confirm that there is a bug that sometimes emtpy(!) folders aren't deleted.

I'm planning to look into this some time soon!

But in this example the folder was not empty..

Hi guys, I think we may be losing the issue here:

Basically the files I have asked to be deleted by the "Delete Left Over Files" function is not working for me. I have asked for .txt files to be deleted but they remain in the folder after a successful transfer of the video to my NAS.

Luke, I totally understand what your saying, but with the upmost respect, the very next option is a tick box that implies to me that Emby will delete empty folders. And with this option ticked, I assumed that on the successful move of my videos to my NAS, the delete files function would run, followed by the delete empty folder function?

But like MEB, doing a manual clean up of the remaining folders after the successful transfer is no biggy at all if the "Delete empty folders" function is not actually available.

The moving of the video files is such an awesome feature and time saver for me I love it!

Cheers Mark

Good grief I think I have found something!

Is it possible my permissions are somehow doing this? I mean its just another hard drive in my PC?

Cheers Mark

I can confirm that this happens to me too, I uses to use this function ages ago but found it was bugged in that if it couldn't rename and move a file, for example a movie, it would just delete that folder anyway. I have tested it again recently and it doesn't delete any files or the folders either. So technically this is a bug as the server is providing an option to delete folders and files but not actually parsing the command correctly. I have checked for hidden files too and also ensured that 'read only' isnt checked and that the security options on that folder have been set to full control by every system wide user/process

If you can confirm this happens to you, then you are confirming there is no Emby Server issue because this issue is about a permissions problem.

OK, So it seems for me, for some reason the whole drive has the read only attrib attached to all folders. I can't remove this via the checkmark or even the attrib commands in 'dos'. For some reason windows automatically replaces this attrib immediately. Even when creating a new folder it instantly becomes read only. When I say read only, its not ticked only a blue square but this effectively puts a block on emby attempting to delete files. So yes Luke, its not so much an issue with Emby but an issue with windows. Although it isn't permissions based, that you are wrong on.

EDIT:

So I was going about this the wrong way, if you are having issues try the following:

start menu -> cmd.exe (right click and run as admin)

type:

attrib -r G:\*.* (or location of your download drive) *this removes the read only attrib from all files on this drive

attrib -r f:\*.* (or location of your designation drive) *this removes the read only attrib from all files on this drive

Running the scheduled task of organise media now deletes all the files you have listed to remove, if the folder is then empty it will delete the folder too.
