Pancho 9
Everything direct plays in 1.1.46g of the app without issue (just rolled back and verified). That is why I was so puzzled when I experienced this as Live TV worked for every channel then just stopped in the newer beta's. I have attached the recent server log (with it tuning it correctly with all channels running the 1.1.46g version). server-63593913172.txt
Cobra 6
my testing is about the same with all working great on stable version but not beta. I could not get any channels (maybe I did not find the right one) to playback direct or transcode. Like we discussed previously the direct option is just not available. Pancho....I am curious did you try playing back recorded content to see if it was a player/codec issue itself or directly related to viewing the stream from the hdhomerun in that format? Unfortunately I did not try this at the time.

The difference between the two versions is that they are using totally different players. For pretty much everything except this specific Live TV source, the newer player is superior to the old one. But, on the Shield, that is not even relevant because we can no longer use the old player library due to incompatibilities with the newer MM platform. Pancho 9
Cobra.. playback of Recorded TV in the 1.1.63g beta transcodes perfectly and I have no issues, it's only the Live TV channel (Comcast) streams from the HDHR. Cobra 6
Do you have the same TV provider as he does? Yes, Comcast. I think both of us are in areas that do not have "Enhanced" service though where it is native mp4. my recordings are standard mpeg2 streams. I am in Michigan. ebr 14901
Pancho - just to confirm, when you turn of the option to direct stream Live TV it doesn't play and you don't even get a transcoding log on the server? If so, can you do that and then post that server log? Thanks.
Pancho 9
Running the beta 1.1.63g. Validated the 'Direct Stream' option is turned off. Here is the order of channels (HD & SD) that I attempted to tune in (with only TBS-HD working): 678(TBS-HD) - streams direct (even though the 'Direct Stream' setting is disabled) 688(SyFy-HD) - Fail - Video playback error - failed to load video 681(Food Network-HD) - Fail - Video playback error - failed to load video 653(NBC-HD) - Fail - Video playback error - failed to load video 137(El Rey-SD) - Fail - Video playback error - failed to load video 222(Discovery Life-SD) - Fail - Video playback error - failed to load video No transcoding log is generated on the server. ebr 14901
Okay, so what must be happening is that we believe the stream does not need transcoding but, in fact, it does. Can you please play the one that works for just a few seconds, then immediately play one that doesn't, and then use the "Send Log" feature from the app? Thanks. Pancho 9
Just sent the log. One item I have noticed with the the 'Send Logs' feature is that the button disappears (even though I have the setting checked). For example, I open Emby and the 'Send Logs' button is not there. I have to 'uncheck' the 'Enable Debug Options', exit back to the main screen and the button is there. I go into Live TV Guide (don't play anything), exit back to the main screen and the button is gone once again. I had to uncheck and re-check in order to send you the log just now, so I hope the info came through.
ebr 14901
I got it, thanks. You don't have to actually change the option, you just need to navigate away from the home screen and then back again.
ebr 14901
Okay, I was correct. Based on the media info we are getting from the stream, we think we can play it back directly but we can't. Now we need to figure out what it is that is different between the channel that works and the one that doesn't. Is there anywhere in the HDHR or, Luke, is there anywhere in the server information where we can look at and determine exactly what the characteristics of each stream are? Maybe if you recorded something from both channels and then we looked at the media info for those two recorded items?

ebr 14901
Notice several of those parameters are "none" on the ones that don't work? Can you record a small amount from TBS and then also from one that doesn't work then make sure those two items have been analyzed by Emby and post the media info from the web client for them? Pancho 9
Attached are 2 recorded TV shows (TBS & Food Network HD). I believe I did discover one helpful item here. It appears that the Emby server can record these 'problem channels' without issue. I just cannot stream those channels as 'Live TV' to the Emby app running on the ShieldTV. I never tried recording a "problem" channel before, just assumed it would always show up as a black screen. I about fell off my chair when I saw that it recorded and actually played back content. Attached is my server logs showing the recorded TV & the multiple transcode logs (playback of the test recorded TV) as well. So as before, this problem appears to be specifically streaming Live TV to the shield and why only certain streams work. server-63593913172.txt transcode-fe3af0fc-730a-47e4-8d07-1066eb214d31.txt transcode-f6975711-a831-4a41-8ef9-0622da4942ce.txt transcode-43ed2ac8-25b7-4840-8fe4-360ff8ec3070.txt
ebr 14901
Yes, the problem is that, even though all the information we have about the stream tells us it should direct play - it won't in the Shield player. Unfortunately, I cannot see anything different about those two streams once recorded but, there were obvious omissions of information from the actual live stream and I think that may be what we're dealing with. The problem though is that, without some piece of data to go off of, there is no way for the app to know what can play and what can't.
ebr 14901
When you get .64 try your problem Live TV channels and see if they will play. Make sure the direct stream live TV option is turned off.
Pancho 9
Ebr.. I updated to .64 here today (verified the direct stream setting was disabled). I was able to tune in the prior problematic channels and they did generate transcode logs on the server. However, the channel would start playing, then freeze for a few seconds, then start again, freeze and start again. I watched the CPU on the server spike up and down. I am currently running a low power CPU (AMD 5350) for my Unraid/Emby server, but moving to a faster 8-core 8320 CPU here within the week. I was unsure if the stop/start was a complication from the low power CPU or something else. I have attached the server log and all of the transcode logs (in a zip). Appreciate all the work on this! server-63594001849.txt Transcode logs.zip
ebr 14901
Yes, it is a CPU problem. You are only able to transcode about 11-12 frames per second.
Pancho 9
Upgraded my Unraid/Emby docker Motherboard/CPU to something more powerful late this afternoon. Rebuilt from scratch my Emby Docker on the new hardware. I confirmed no problem playing Live TV on any channel on the stable release on the Nvidia Shield. I still have the issue with the beta Android TV app (1.1.66g) that only allows some channels to direct play (as stated before in this thread), but with the new hardware I am able to turn off 'Direct Stream Live TV' and initial tests seems to prove that I can transcode all channels now. As before, I can record TV from any channel, only have issues with Live TV. I average about high 20's - mid 30's for Live TV playback. I do experience occasional lip sync issue with the transcoded channels, but seems to resolve if I exit out of the channel and back in again. No issues Direct Playing Live TV to the Android App for my LG G4. Any new suggestions/logs that I can send to help diagnose the discrepancy with the channels on Android TV (so I can leave Direct Stream enabled)?
