Installed Theater about a week ago, and everything looks great and loads quick, but none of the videos will play.  Just says an error has occurred.  What am I missing here?

Media Browser Server Version 3.0.5099.2102

Here is the log (I think).  There is a bunch of them, most were pretty big, so I shutdown the server and started up again, before trying to play a movie.  Should make it easier to spot the issue, I hope.

Also, as per your directions, I do not see any ffmpeg found with the server logs in the same folder?

The only plugin I have installed is RottenTomatoes Reviews 1.0.5088.27448

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Been using Media Browser integrated into Media Center for a long time, am excited to use the standalone client!  Any help is really appreciated.

The ffmpeg log will only appear with you are transcoding, so if you're using MBT you won't see it. I'll have a look at the logs, but you will most likely have to wait for a dev to answer. Just a few quick questions though.

  1. Are the LAV filters installed?
  2. Does the PC with MBT installed have read access to the files you are trying to play?
  3. Is the server and MBT on the same machine?
  4. Can you play video on any other client?

Should be able to sort you out. MBT is still beta software, so there are a few kinks ;)

Thanks, appreciate the insight.

  1. Are the LAV filters installed?  No idea, how do I check?  I never had issues playing video with Classic.
  2. Does the PC with MBT installed have read access to the files you are trying to play? Yes, I've set everything up with network links, rather than folder links, as per the directions.
  3. Is the server and MBT on the same machine? Yes.
  4. Can you play video on any other client? I can stream to the iPhone app while at home on my wifi network, no issues at all.  Haven't been able to figure out how to make it work outside of my home network, though.

MBT installs LAV Filters. You should be able to find them in your 'Programs and Features' in the control panel.

Are the files on that same machine?

If you also want help streaming to your iPhone outside of your network, have a read of this: Port Forwarding - A guide. If you still can't get it, let me know and I'll hook you up.

I can't find 'Programs and Features' anywhere in the Configuration Dashboard?

Yes, all files are on the same machine.

Sorry, I meant Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Don't see LAV filters listed in Programs, but I think it may be installed within another program because it shows up if I search manually in the Start menu.

Well, not filters, but LAV audio, LAV video and LAV splitter all show up.  May be related to Universal Media Server, which I've used to stream to my PS3 from my PC for years.

Yeah that's the right one. MBT will install them. You could try manually reinstalling them and see if that helps. Otherwise you'll have to wait for @@Luke to have a look.

I'll sit tight and hope Luke has an answer before I go reinstalling anything, thanks for taking time to answer my questions.  :)

alot of my files do this as well  but only on my media center that still is running MB2 with shark007 codecs I was assuming it was interfearing somehow. On my server machine I have MBT installed and have never has a file not play correctly

I wouldn't say I "recommend" it but that is what I was going to try uninstalling MBT, MB2, and Shark007 then re-installing MBT and letting it install its LAV filters just like I did on my desktop and see if it will run correctly that way not sure what else would be different between my two machines so that was my plan. The only reason I had not done this already is because I am waiting on them to get green button and mce remote fully working then I will do it if you want to try that go for it. not sure how much effort you want to put into my guess, cause it is only a guess.
